I like Mancini and wanted that deal to work (and didn't dislike it at the time). I am surprised they went ahead and made the tough but obvious choice. He has no spot on the roster anymore. Maybe someone like the Yankees or Phillies desperate for a bat will take a chance.

Which, it should be noted, is fine. Wisdom isn't a great defender or overall hitter, but at least he can get on an occasional HR heater. Mancini can't hit and was also the worst defensive 1B on the roster.

Oh, absolutely.  If we're looking at Mancini vs. Wisdom in a vacuum, that's an easy choice to make.  I'm surprised the Cubs made it though.

I'd be surprised if one of Suter, Raley or Chafin weren't a Cub in the next couple hours.

Chafin traded to Brewers

It's wild that Arizona seems to be selling when they're currently in a WC spot

I can't tell what they're doing.  They added Sewald, then sold Chafin.  Maybe there's a player coming back from Milwaukee they like?  Maybe they like Huira or Urias more?

I can't say it's great for the game when division leaders like the Reds, Twins and Orioles are doing absolutely nothing and teams 2.5 or less games out of the division/WC are selling or completely standing pat(Boston, SF, ARI, CLE)

If the Mets are eating about 20-25M, it's a pretty good deal for both sides.

They are eating 54 million

Lol There is a good chance you’ll eat those words one day.

It's definitely possible. There's a better chance I won't.

A lot of people seem to spend a lot of time studying prospects without ever noticing the failure rate.

someone tell me which team i can make fun of

If the Mets are involved, it’s probably them. Especially when this move is part of a roster blow up only 4 months after compiling a roster payroll over $300M. Love it.

I guess the Mets have found the new loophole to quickly rebuild a minor league system.  Sign star players to huge contracts, then trade them along with truckloads of money to bring back top prospects.

It is extremely funny that Steve Cohen thought he had cracked the code of roster building and after one good season and doubling down it took 3 months to realize he not only needed to sell at the deadline by eating a truckload of money but also give up on 2024.

You realize you're advocating for Mancini right now right? Sure Mervis might suck, but we know unequivocally that Mancini does in fact suck. There is literally nothing to lose and at they very least they would find out that Mervis is no part of the 2024 plan if he bombs.

I'm not advocating for anyone specifically.  If the cubs wanted to call up mervis tomorrow and give him the job, I would consider that fine.  If they don't, that's fine too.  Lotta guys can fill the back of an MLB roster equally as well as the front of a AAA one, and he's certainly one of them.
