Jamfan?

Rawdog?

No. but it doesn't matter TT did us all a favor

This is likely a loss. Urias is similar to Hill. The only difference is that he's younger, but he'll probably go 6 innings. Unless Lackey can hold them to 1 run or less by that point, I don't see the Cubs winning tomorrow.

This series will end in 5 most likely barring a Kershaw collapse.

G'day.

For those that missed it, this is the yahoo that is no longer with us. As if this post wasn't bad enough, he then had some less than attractive things to say about Rizzo, and that just isn't welcome here.

He's a Cubs fan? Jesus, I would have sworn white sox/Dodgers/cards

no man, there are a lot of those whack jobs so desperate to protect themselves from the pain of losing that they lash out aggressively toward any Cub that makes an out and then any fan that maintains some hope. A lot of them do not like this site's twitter account.

I can't believe how many people (fans, the media, etc) that really want Kershaw pitching tonight. You want to throw him on 3 days rest (he gets full 5 days rest if you push him one more game) on the off-chance he can maybe throw relief in a game 7 that might not happen? What?

This isn't even an elimination game - its totally bonkers to me.

I get why they want to see it. Being up 3-2 is better than being down 3-2. Lester is pitching better than anyone else on the Cubs roster right now, and Kershaw gives them the best chance to beat Lester. Hendricks and Arrieta are right handed pitchers that the Dodgers feel they might more easily exploit with their lefty bats to win one of the last two games if Kershaw can win tonight. Kershaw is also better at home by a run and a half this year.

There are reasons to consider it from the Dodgers' perspective. BBB is right - going to wrigley needing just 1 instead of facing possibly facing 2 elimination games is a big difference, and it neutralizes what is currently the biggest SP advantage for the Cubs in today's game. Plus it would give them flexibility - Kershaw available in relief in G7, and setting him up to start WS Game 1.

Thinking ahead, whomever starts Game 6 of the NLCS probably isn't available until Game 3 of the WS. If you're the Dodgers and you have 1 true stud SP, then you'd want him at least available to start Games 1, 4, and 7 on short rest or out of the pen, even if you don't need him for Game 4. Giving him 2 more days now limits you to just Games 3 and maybe 7 if you're still there. Or they could have him start Game 2 on short rest and either Game 5 on short rest or Game 6, but it's still just 2 WS starts.

I don't really understand the idea that today's game is less important than Saturday's. As of right now, the next 2 games are equally important to the Dodgers - they have to win at least one of them. I'm guessing they have reason to think Kershaw wouldn't have been effective today, which is why they had a full bullpen yesterday and will have him pitch Saturday. If he were fully healthy, it'd be kind of dumb not to have him pitch today given the extra availability it gives them this series and next.

It only really matters for the Dodgers. The Indians have plenty of time and will set Kluber up for Game 1 and probably 4 & 7 b/c their rotation is otherwise a tire fire. The Cubs have 4 guys that can go and Lester is already lined up to start Games 1 and 5 (of course, Lackey probably would have to start Game 2, so Hendricks would go 3 and 7). But the Dodgers are in a tough spot if Kershaw doesn't start until Saturday.

Pretty dumb. How about you not take the risk that something like this happens to your 30 million a year pitcher.

MOD spoiler b/c why the horsefeathers would anyone want to watch a guy break his arm? jesus

omc gonna omc

Heyward should find himself one of those right handed bats to use tonight like Rizzo used for the HR last night

a fungo bat to catch up with any fastball

How about a standard bat with somebody more capable of operating it?

There's always going to be some level of anxiety going into a playoff game, especially in a tie series, but this game is ours to win. Skimming over the Dodger's splits, these guys are completely inept vs. lefties. Puig and Seeger are the only guys with >.700 OPS against them.

I'm thinking we rattle off 3-4 runs in the first 3-4 innings, tack a few on vs. the dregs of their bullpen, and win 7-0. Yes, that is what will happen.

Is the general consensus here that Adrian Gonzalez was safe at the plate last night? All of the shows ive watched, the commentators are stating pretty matter-of-factly that he was safe. I didnt see it that way, looked to me especially from the lower camera angle that his hand didnt touch the plate until after the tag. I certainly did not see concrete proof that he was safe. Im usually pretty good at separating my bias from this, and i would have been pretty upset if that call had been overturned.

I don't feel certain saying either way if he was safe or out, my initial reaction was safe and if that had been the call it would've been held up. I'm fine with going with the initial call by the ump.

Gonzalez was probably safe, and had the situation been opposite I would've made about 15 angry posts about it not being overturned. But since he slid with his fingers up, I didn't see an angle that definitively showed contact with the plate before the glove hit his jaw. Worst case this is justice for that Pirates game where Baez was out despite getting hand, arm, and elbow across the plate before being tagged.

Meh, it was too close to call. I figure we deserve the benefit of the doubt due to the piss poor judgement call to send a notoriously slow 1st baseman vs. one of the best OF cannons in the biz. Dave Roberts probabaly just forgot that Adrian Gonzalez isn't him.

I don't think Dave Roberts was involved in that decision.
