So those of you who think hot and cold streaks are real like at least semi-tangible things, do you honestly feel better about Rizzo and Russell's chances to do good things tonight?

Just curious.

I don't firmly believe in them, I think they do exist to a limited extent, but it's a fungible thing with many variables. I feel better about them tonight mostly because of the pitcher they are facing more than any idea of them having a "hot hand."

I obviously believe in when a guy is going well or bad there's underlying, mostly quantifiable things, happening and not just a guy being/not being "clutch" "hot" "an October player" etc.

My bar problem got solved. I brought a small laptop, got here early and got a table with a plug. My buds will just have to deal with me occasionally checking in here.

How could you not? Russell, especially, looked lost at the plate prior to yesterday. Players fall into "cold streaks" for various tangible reasons - some timing mechanism goes off, swinging at pitchers pitches, a breakdown in swing mechanics. It's not like he was hitting the crap out of the ball but right at the fielders. I feel better because it's possible he recognized some flaw and corrected it - he may still strike out 5 times tonight - but I feel better because at least yesterday he was making better contact - which for him has been an issue at times.

I think things like that just snowball. First, its a breakdown in swing mechs or pitch recognition. Then the player starts to press, which leads to more pressing and which ultimately starts throwing all kinds of things out of whack. See ball : hit ball is very difficult to do when ball is traveling at 95 mph one pitch and 85 the next. Keeping your concentration for months at a time isn't always possible, if not impossible. That's where being patient usually helps as you can draw walks, but if the pitchers throw strikes, its harder to work out of.

I'm just glad they both were hitting the snot out of the ball

The past few games I've been able to keep myself occupied until about 7-7:30ET, but I'm already in watching-the-clock mode today. I might need narcotics.

Worked out well yesterday, so I'm sticking with the hot hand today.

That horsefeathers is great for a quick buzz

Yeah, I'm still concerned about Russell and have been the whole year to tell you the truth. I think Rizzo is starting to break out of his funk and I think he'll have a good game today. I think the Cubs win a close one today with Lester pitching okay, but he won't dominate the Dodgers.

It's so weird, but I actually feel more comfortable right now with Baez at the plate than with like 3 or 4 other Cubs players. I still think Heyward needs to be benched with Contreras playing LF when he isn't catching. Heyward should come in as a defensive replacement later in the game.

Anyway, Go Cubs Go! See you guys after the game, er, I'll read the thread after the game...

That's why I don't mind spending the money on a 6 pack. Drinking 1 or 2 in a night is plenty.

How do you guys last until 7 each night? This is terrible.

You're a spoiled horsefeathers. And it's 8 for some of us. Had to stay awake until 3am to watch the Cubs lose to the Giants last week.

Where'd you end up? I'm just at a friends house for tonight...got a feeling Saturday is going to be a somewhat expensive day.

I love this plotline so much because of how deluded it is. Yes, please do cartwheels off first base and see how little Lester cares, and then either try your luck at stealing a base(runners have a 31% CS% on Lester, right at league average) or at getting picked the horsefeathers off by Ross(8 in less than 70 games). Goons.

Settled on Fatpour. Solid beer selection. Our AirBnB was actually off the Division stop so that worked out well.

There's also the whole "if they get on first base" thing. Good luck with that.
