If you recall Hendry said we needed to get more left-handed when we lost to the Dodgers in 09. Just loving the possible irony of it.

I was actually thinking similarly during the Game 3 loss, but I was like "thank god we have theo and he's smart enough not to overreact to how bad we've looked against two lefties."

The thing I've thought is "Man, I wish we had more than 1 lefty starter" against the Dodgers, but I'm assuming Montgomery is gonna get a good chance at starting for us next year so that would solve that

I was secretly hoping for a Monty/Z-man/Wood bullpen day combo for Lackey's start, but there's a reason they are paying Maddon and not me. Plus it would hurt our bullpen for those spot lefty needs during the series.

Maybe I'm just losing my mind but I almost wouldn't mind that combo starting game 7 if necessary. Heck throw Lester in there for an inning or two if needed. I sadly just do not trust Jake at this point with all those lefties in a game that might require 0 margin for error.

I was referring to my own previous comment about the Dodgers being so bad against lefties. We mashed lefties pretty good this year.

Oh I know, I was thinking along the same lines you were of Hendry overreacting to that Dodgers series in 09, just in terms of "theo is too cool to ever fall for that"

What year was it that we needed to get more 2nd basey because we needed more guys who could catch the ball?

This morning, on Bovada you could (fairly inexplicably) get +135 on the Cubs for this series. They're now -170.

To deviate from this a bit.... I was out in Vegas in middle of July, in like the middle of June I was looking at WS odds and saw the Indians were around 16/1 (give or take 2) depending on where you went and I had them circled as a pretty good value bet at the time and I planned to put some decent money on them. Then about 2 weeks before I was scheduled to be out there they won like 14 in a row and like 20 of 25 or something crazy and had taken control of the division and maybe traded for Miller or whatever and they were down to 5/1 when I got out there so I laid off. Would've been nice to have the timing of my trip better to get them at that 16/1 or so as I could be locking in some serious profits starting around the 3rd game of the WS.

I know, nobody cares about my gambling stories but this missed opportunity stings a bit.

Is there a market for buying odds off someone?

For example if somebody locked in the Indians 16 to 1, do they ever sell their ticket when odds have moved down 2 to 1 for the Indiand. The buyer would pay a premium that would reflect him getting the 16 to 1 odds but the premium would have to be some middle point where hes obviously not just paying a premium that puts him right back to 2 to 1 all in.

I considered it too, or even start Jake but let him work 2-3 innings. It mostly seems that when he gets in trouble it is the 2nd time through the lineup.

Not sure, but I know at least in England books will sometimes offer chances to cash in tickets early for a reduced return. For example people that put a bet on Leicester City to win the Premier League before the season started were able to cash in early when it became apparent that they would actually win but it wasn't quite a lock yet.

horsefeathers Game 7!! Cubs are goin to rock Maeda. Hit up Kershaw for 3 early, get a gem from Hendricks and Chapman is goin for a 2 inning save with 5ks and 25 pitches over 100 mph.

I'm sure there is, maybe not an official one but if you went to the right guys at sports books out there I'm sure you could do that if you wanted to. If the book was particularly exposed on the bet they'd probably do it themselves. I don't know why you would do that if you held the 16/1 ticket though, unless you were strapped for cash and say couldn't wait out the playoffs/WS. You could hedge it at this point fairly easily. When they went up 2-0 and 3-0 in the DS/LCS you could probably get pretty juicy odds on the Red Sox/Jays to win those series, even though they didn't hit, would have cost little to lock in that bet. Then now just bet the Cubs/Dodgers to win the world series right now and then start betting a little against the Indians in the world series starting in game 3 or so or wait until the elimination game(s) and bet bigger.

Just went outside. 90 degrees. 3 more degrees to get to the high. Ugh. Luckily the humidity is only 6%. I gotta golf in this crap tomorrow. Not fun.

I'll be heading out to a bar to watch this one with friends tonight. Not too sure how much I'll be able to post during the game. For those who have my number, if there are issues with the site tonight give me a text.

There is a frost advisory where I live in Wisconsin tonight through tomorrow. Golf season here is essentially done for 6 months. I don't feel bad for you, in fact I'm quite jealous.

Tonight's game will be the 4th latest into October we've played baseball. Saturday's will be tied for the 2nd longest.

Latest October games in Cubs history:

1. 10/23/1910

- 10/23/2016* if necessary

2. 10/22/1910

3. 10/22/2016

4. 10/21/2015

5. 10/20/2016

Obviously if the Cubs make it to the World Series they will be playing the latest games in their history.

everybody feeling good?

i still have 2 ballast points left in the fridge, can't really start drinking early bc i always miss the middle of the game to put the teething toddler down for bed and i'd prob wet me-self if i had a few in me beforehand. it would probably take less time if i wasn't filling the room w/ light from my phone from gamecasting/nsbb gamethread/texting furiously like every pitch is the end of the world, but horsefeathers that noise, i can't help myself.

and today is wife's bday. she's not happy about all this playoff baseball but i told her she better get used to it. i'll do something nice for her in november.

let's get some runs early and turn the place into wrigley-west again.

This game has me more nervous than any other game in the postseason because a) The matchup should favors us more than any game remaining in the series and b) obviously the vital importance of the game.

But if like tonights matchup was Kershaw vs. Hendricks, I would be less nervous right now. Something about having to win the matchups that are heavily tilted in your favor despite knowing that baseball over 9 innings can be completely unpredictable makes me a bundle of nerves right now.

Posted
If the Cubs get out to an early lead that will help my nerves exponentially

I want a stretch like the mets had vs us where we constantly score in the first. The idea of an early lead on the road is great. Make them play from behind immediately and hope they start pressing.

All I can think about is how over this weekend the cubs could be going to the world series. It's in sight and it being so close is making me antsy.

Being with a non-sports person can be so "fun". The last long-term relationship before this one, I had to explain the IF fly rule to him.

The current guy is fantastic, though -- shouted louder than I did at Addy's HR. And he's an M's fan. Definitely a keeper. :-)
