That puts a lot of pressure on Carlos Martinez in the rotation. Something he hasn't done in nearly two years to the day, and something he hasn't been particularlu good at since 2017

So far, 2 IP, 1 BB, 6 H, 5 ER for Cmart.

He looked like complete horsefeathers, mostly 91-92. Touches 93-95 1-3 times.

I hope everyone is sitting down for this, but Carols Rodon got hurt in his start
And the RP we traded with a DH a few years back couldn't make it to the 3rd

Cease and Jimenez don't have issues doing the dishes, though.

Not that this was unforeseeable given the circumstances, but there's a bitter irony in MLB taking all these measures (DH, runner on 2nd) presumably to avoid pitcher injuries and yet we're seeing a whole horsefeathers ton of them anyway.

Maddon left Ohtani in an inning for 42 pitches

Not to necessarily absolve Maddon from blame because 42 pitches in an inning is unnecessary for Ohtani coming off an injury, but wasn’t his velocity down in his first start also? If so, seems likely the injury was already there.

The Dusty works in mysterious ways.

Probably but that inning is just bad management

100% agree on that, especially since you know the velocity is already down. You can't leave him out there that long.

Hard pass.

On an extremely cheap 1 year deal, maybe. But there’s a lot of other FA SPs who won’t cost much I’d prefer over him. Hell I’d have more interest in bringing Q and/or Chatwood (depending on the severity of his injury/if he needs surgery) back on 1 year deals over him. I’m actually pretty interested in Q for 1 year next year for a semi reliable/inning eating rotation spot.

I’m not particularly in favor of bringing in Arrieta. Barring something unforeseen, I could see a Drew Pomeranz’s 2018 deal ($1.5 mil guaranteed with a chance to be up to $5 mil in salary based on incentives) for Jake. Maybe a team like the Rangers takes a chance or there’s interest in him as a reliever. Overall I agree that there’s other pitchers I’d rather take a chance on.
