I'm in the air from 5:55 CT until 8:30 CT. Anyone have experience streaming games on an airplane?

Yeah. You're screwed. There's not enough bandwidth to support streaming. Netflix, etc... never works unless it's content already downloaded to your machine.

Unless it's a plane that has DirecTV, in which case that will be the best $8 you'll ever spend.

I don't know, if I was in that situation and the game was any bit as tense as it should be, I could see myself getting escorted off the plane by air marshalls upon landing.

This would be for a hypothetical NLDS Game 1, I'd like to think I could keep myself somewhat in check for that.

David, as much as you're committed to fighting irrational posting in the game threads, it's always gonna be a pure id-driven emotionally charged place. Doubly so for the playoffs, as emotions run higher and even more randos come into the threads.

I mean, I wish you the best, but it's gonna be a losing battle (and if I'm near a phone or computer and not hanging with folks, I'll probably engage in it as well)

Just remember people --- no matter what happens, it's been an amazing year and this team will only get better.

Being emotional is fine, but making irrationally negative posts is not fine imo. You do not better the board or discussing by declaring game over in the third inning or other even more irrational thoughts.

depends on which plane you're on, some have directv, some do not. pretty sure he'd be good to go on southwest, though.

How much better can it get? They just won 97 games.

I'm going to have to DVR Game 1 if the Cubs win Wednesday and somehow avoid hearing anything while tweeting updates from the HS football game I'm covering.

Long shot you're flying Virgin America, but they have free TV that has TBS.

i've flown them once and it was [expletive] awesome

they need to add direct ORD to LAS service damnit

Yeah I had the same humbling thought that, [expletive], to win this division in the future they'll likely have to improve and (I imagine the Cardinals will return to earth somewhat, but the Pirates are still on the come-up) and you can only do so much to get better when you're so close to the top.

I'm afraid they'll increase their talent level but not get as "lucky" (one-run games, sequencing luck, etc etc) but that's just baseball.

Flew them to SF for a wedding last year on my wife's recommendation from a previous trip she'd made. Lived up to every expectation.

I'm on board. I mean, I'll be barely coherent by the 3rd inning. But not negative.

The Cardinals already have begun to come back to Earth somewhat. Their pixie dust ran low when Molina went down and Martinez went down as he should have with the innings load this season. They were damn lucky to hold onto the division after that incredible start.

Plus, Matheny is their manager. All things being equal going foward I like the Cubs' chances. Besides, this Cubs team has much room for growth and improvement.

The reality is that 3 teams in a single division with records that good doesn't happen that often. A million different things can happen that changes the fortune of each team, including the Cubs.

I'll be loading up a cooler with the 24 pack of Stone go-to and keeping it near the couch. Much will be consumed.

And that's precisely why all that matters is getting into the playoffs. For reasons you just stated, it's very possible for them to be as good or better (or at least more experienced) in the coming years but win a few less games in the process.

My experience with United is about 85% of the flights I've been on domestically have DirectTV installed.

Also Southwest has free TV for selected channels, but I do not believe TBS is one of them. They do have a channel called "MLB.tv" but I think it only shows the MLB.tv free game of the day on it.

But the scolding of such posters makes the game thread infinitely more enjoyable.

Exactly...baseball sometimes a slower paced sport...you have to do something to entertain yourself during the lulls in action.
