Reading this thread has me so damn nervous for tomorrow's game but also jacked up about the idea of a quick road trip to STL for Saturday's game if we can get Jake a run or two in Pittsburgh.

Yeah I have been thinking about doing this. I think I could swing $150 per ticket, I imagine after the Cubs win tomorrow the ticket prices will increase significantly. I would leave around 9am and head home after the game so no hotel needed.

I just won $180 in the office weekly NFL pick 'em pool. I think that's a sign.

A friend just texted me that first pitch tomorrow is at 7:08pm. In military time that is 1908. And the date is 10/7. It's been 107 years since the Cubs last won the World Series in 1908. This has to be a sign, right? Edited by Old Style

Dude Cutch, why you gotta be so cool?

Just a brief quote from it:

The Wild Card Game is, in a word, awesome. We’re headed to our third Wild Card game in a row on Wednesday. A lot of people are saying that it’s unfair that we have the second-best record in baseball and we have to face Cy Young contender Jake Arrieta in a do-or-die game. There’s some debate about whether it should be a best-of-three or maybe they should do away with divisions altogether.

I understand where those people are coming from, but my feeling is this: What kind of a champion says, “Man, I’m just hoping for the easiest road possible …”

Dude is awesome. Might be my favorite non-Cub.

But the game is in the eastern time zone so it's actually at 2008 and my phone lists the date as 1007, which subtracted from 2008 makes 1001, which was the year Leif Erikkson and his vikings settled in North America and vikings are pretty much just pirates with fur coats, and Joe Namath famously wore a fur coat on the sideline during a game in 1971, which was also the year the Pirates won the World Series over Baltimore so [expletive] that [expletive].

La Stella should never grab a baseball bat this post season. I don't get this team's / Joe Maddon's obsession with him.

He's the team's best contact guy and sometimes you need contact. He's got a 727 OPS as a utility infielder. He's a perfectly fine candidate to participate in the postseason.

This has been the hilarious pattern for a month.

"La Stella in the lineup, not again!"

[La Stella goes 1 for 3 with a double and a walk]

I'd rather have Austin Jackson in the lineup.

Len was on the morning radio show this morning.

Thinks we'll see Schwarber in RF, Bryant in LF, and La Stella at 3B.

.....

if that happened, it'd be gross. especially since cole has reverse splits (primarily due to BABIP and admittedly his xFIP is 0.6ish higher vs lefties).

Cole has reverse splits, but they were much more balanced in the past two seasons. I think opposing managers load up lefties, and not great ones, in the interest of getting lefties in the lineup. The RH who remain are really good and hit him better.

Also, the Pirates left side of the defense is just better than the right side. You aren't many balls by Mercer and Harrison, but Neil Walker. I think that's the thought process here. Pull lefties and figure out how to get 3 runs up the best way you can.

Because no matter how well he does he can still only ever be Tommy La Stella, which means he's just taking away playing time from a much more exciting player. He's the baseball version of a sound, modest investment; ultimately there are plenty of times where he makes much more sense, but, [expletive], blowing all of my money on this rocket car right now sounds so much more fun and exciting.

See also: Coghlan or Denorfia starting over Schwarber or Soler. The logic of the decision is obvious, but, [expletive], it still can't help but seem so [expletive] lame.

To be fair, a majority of that was Mojo.

I like this one. Damn I can't wait until tomorrow night. I woke up in a state of shock three times last night from nightmares that I had missed the game and wasn't sure if The Cubs had won or not.

Hey, I stopped after my pledge during the Cardinals game. After that I only say "Rat Boy" as a cool nickname for him. Edited by Sammy Sofa

I hope LaStella hits a couple of dongs just to see the reactions here.

Well we all hope that. Nobody's rooting for him to fail.

we are good was for when people didn't know we were good

now it's established

it is time for domination and frequent flying of the W

up 2-0 (or even 1-1) against the Cardinals with Jake on the mound at Wrigley with everybody holding up W's would be unreal

... but let's not get to far ahead of ourselves
