I do not feel anything about the game right now. When Arrieta gives up a 2 out single in the 2nd or something, I suspect the season's mortality will hit me like a wave and I'll barely be able to speak real words for the rest of the game from anxiety.

Same here. I have been anticipating this game for the better part of a month now. It's go time. I'm not worried. But, I know I will be a miserable wreck once the first pitch has been thrown.

Here's a probably dumb question: let's say that the first inning goes better than anyone can expect, Cole gets rocked, leaves before finishing the inning, etc. How many runs do they have to score before you tell Arrieta he's not pitching so he can go twice in the NLDS? I think technically he'd have to face one hitter, but that hitter/inning would just bide time to warm someone up. 8 runs? 10? 15?

This is a sadistic question. But, I would say 10, at least. And I say this mainly because I am not too worried about him missing that extra start in the Cards series. I mean, sure, it's not ideal. But, if we are going to win the whole thing, we are going to need other guys to step at some point. And he would still be lined up fine for the NLCS and beyond. And, [expletive], maybe we sweep the Cards and it's moot, anyway.

One of my favorite postgame moments this season occurred Friday night in Milwaukee when someone asked Arrieta his confidence level going into Wednesday's start.

"Pretty good," he said with a grin.

There's no one else you'd rather have in the driver's seat if you're a Cubs fan, so you also should feel "pretty good" heading into the game.

Yeah, I waver back and forth between supreme confidence in Jake and the knowledge that it's basically a 50-50 shot. Got a hint of the nerves earlier when I looked at At-Bat and the postseason stuff was there. I imagine I'll be fine until I wake up Wednesday morning.

however many runs get us to a high enough win expectancy that, at that point, having arrieta pitch 2 games in the NLDS rather than that one game and then one in the NLDS.

lmao no jk that's a super cop out

I'd be fine with it after 5-6, but i'm sure some will consider that aggressive. 5-0 in the first probably gets you to around 90% win expectancy, i'd guess.

I keep switching from nervous anticipation and excitement.

I'll probably be a mess on Wednesday. Thank goodness I took the day off.

I work 3rd shift so I took my one "bonus" day off, that they give us every 3 months. I have a week of vacation and that is being saved in case something happens further down the line....like in late October/early November.

Is anyone else concerned about the Cubs' high propensity to strike out and how that might affect this game? I think that is a big concern in the post season.

Refer to again and again if you turn into a miserable wreck watching the game.
