oh and magic number

http://www1.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Alfonso+Soriano+Anthony+Rizzo+3OjiGy7K4X6m.jpg

Even though I watched the games at the time, it seems so [expletive] weird to see Rizoz and Soriano on the same team in that picture. It feels like [expletive] forever since the Soriano days.

we were a month from having some wood/rizzo overlap, which is kind of crazy to me

this is kinda nuts too

i was actually trying to find a pic of dempster and rizzo but there appears to be no evidence on the internet that they were teammates. geo will have to do.

Holy hell you never would've convinced me Rizzo and Soto were teammates. It really does seem like a different eon.

My biggest takeaway from that was that Jake was noticeably bigger than he is now. Oh and that Pirates announcers get over the top excited about beating the crappy version of the Cubs. Was that in 2013 or last year?

2013.

pretty easy to tell from his delivery IMO (and his hair)

also i really don't see the noticeably bigger thing

What's weird is I have no clue who that is on the Cubs

Wild-card umpires: Major League Baseball announced the umpires for Wednesday’s wild-card game and Jeff Nelson will be behind the plate. Arrieta has one start in his career with Nelson calling balls and strikes; he walked three and struck out three in 6 2/3 innings. Pirates starter Gerrit Cole is 3-0 with a 2.00 ERA in three starts with Nelson; he has struck out 18 and walked just three. Hunter Wendelstedt is manning first base while crew chief John Hirschbeck is at second with Jim Reynolds at third. Mike Eastbrook is down the left-field line and Cory Blaser is in right field.

Let's recap:

Pirates fans: We are going to intimidate you.

Jake: It doesn't matter what you do, it won't.

Pirates fans: We don't matter? How dare he!

Jake: Do what you need to do, I'll savor it.

Pirates fans: We thought we'd win but Jake thinks he will. He's a punk. #wematter

Len was on the morning radio show this morning.

Thinks we'll see Schwarber in RF, Bryant in LF, and La Stella at 3B.

if that happened, it'd be gross. especially since cole has reverse splits (primarily due to BABIP and admittedly his xFIP is 0.6ish higher vs lefties).

La Stella should never grab a baseball bat this post season. I don't get this team's / Joe Maddon's obsession with him.

He's the team's best contact guy and sometimes you need contact. He's got a 727 OPS as a utility infielder. He's a perfectly fine candidate to participate in the postseason.

Reading this thread has me so damn nervous for tomorrow's game but also jacked up about the idea of a quick road trip to STL for Saturday's game if we can get Jake a run or two in Pittsburgh.

Man, he looks so much more different to me; much more traditionally "pitcher chunky" than what he is now.

Yeah I have been thinking about doing this. I think I could swing $150 per ticket, I imagine after the Cubs win tomorrow the ticket prices will increase significantly. I would leave around 9am and head home after the game so no hotel needed.
