I think they are professional baseball players and probably still feel like they can go out, compete, and win games. I'm anxious to see Wada and hoping Hendricks is up soon. No, they won't duplicate the success of Samardzija and Hammel (and I'm sure everyone knows that), but it doesn't mean they are now automatically insufferable. Samardzija hasn't been lighting the world on fire lately, either.

If Castro and Rizzo are pissed then it's probably directed at themselves or their agents for the awesome team-friendly deals they signed with a last place team...

It's not like they signed those deals coming off the 2008 season here, or anything.

Yeah because nobody ever regrets that type of decision. Good point.

By the way, I saw Wada is being called up but I think I missed the other corresponding move (or maybe it hasn't occurred yet). Can Beeler get recalled already? Or is Rusin the other move for the time being?

Just kidding, they're probably reading Keith Law tweets in the dugout and calculating draft position after each loss.

I think I saw Rizzo in the dugout between innings showing Castro a spreadsheet about the great success rate of top 20 prospects and he may have had a couple print outs about potential TV deals on there too, I'm not sure the sound was down

What's your point?

They went with a 24-man roster yesterday. Parker just got called up this morning to fill in the other spot.

Thanks.

Any chance they pull Hendicks early today and have him go Thursday? (Sunday-Wednesday: Arrieta, Jackson, Wada, Wood)

I'd think those would be three of the guys most annoyed about the situation.

Maybe Castro but the two other guys were brought here as part of the rebuilding plan so I don't really see why they would be upset.

You don't really see why they would be upset? Really?

They're guys who are playing great. For a team that has been playing solid baseball, thus leading them to enjoy the day to day more and maybe having hopes of competing. They've only been on bad teams. They were just made actively worse for the rest of this season.

It doesn't mean they're going to pout or demand a trade or say a bunch of negative stuff to the media and I'm sure they understand what the front office is doing. But it's just dumb to say you can't understand why they'd be upset or annoyed by what just happened.

Not on the 40-man. Though there is a spot open.

Just saw Tuesday is a DH. That muddles things a little further because the Cubs can go with 26 that day. Guess we will see.

Yeah, Castro's just a stupid brown guy who could never understand value and team control and the fact that guys like Bryant, Baez, and Russell will make them contenders very soon.

And I also really doubt that Arrieta has all too much ill will towards the organization that just transformed his career.

Most major league players seem to know about good minor league players. I can see some guys being annoyed, but I'd guess the young guys are also excited about what they're going to be a part of soon.

Now I'm wondering if *you* don't understand that it's possible to be simultaneously mad that something happened and understand that it'll be better in the long run.

That wasn't your original post at all. You implied that Castro was too dumb to actually understand these things.

Yeah, but if they start putting together a team of Kalish/Coghlan/Ruggiano types and completely whiff on Scherzer or Shields while making no attempt at guys that are ready to go, you'll know the parallel front isn't quite ready to go yet.

My problem is with people saying there's no reason to have Bryant or Baez or whoever break camp with the big club next year.

UM YES THERE IS IT'S CALLED IF THEY WANT TO WIN GAMS YOU [expletive] DOLTS.

I would bring up Bryant, Soler, and Baez and turn them loose on the women RIGHT A [expletive] WAY I HAVE NO DESIRE TO WASTE ANY PART OF ANY MORE SEASONS FOR THE SIMPLE SAKE OF AN EXTRA YEAR OF CONTROL AT THIS POINT. IF THEY ARE GOOD GIVE THEM A BILLION DOLLARS I DONT CARE BECAUSE IT'S NOT MY MONEY YOU [expletive] SLACKJAWS

I really hope they work out a long term deal with Bryant over the offseason so he can start the season with the team. Maybe Russell, too. Then if Alcantara comes up this year, that would give them 4 guys (those 3 plus Soler) who wouldn't have service time concerns.

I just had a flashback to the quotes from Theo way back when about how awesome it would be to have an entirely home-grown team.

We really may not be trading any of these guys.

I'm torn as far as whether or not to explore trading Castro this off-season. His value will likely never be higher given his production, age, and team friendly contract.

I would hate to trade him for a young arm and have it not pan out but to get a couple of top arms and allocate the money saved into more pitching is intriguing.

Metaphorical representation of the Chicago Cubs:

The Cubs shook up the farm and then made dogs fly?

Shook up the MLB team... and they're reeeeeaaaalllly mad now.

No it's not. Having Castro move to 2B, having Russel be the SS of the future, and Baez be the 3B of the future is intriguing.
