Metaphorical representation of the Chicago Cubs:

The Cubs shook up the farm and then made dogs fly?

Shook up the MLB team... and they're reeeeeaaaalllly mad now

lol. It was an ant farm so I immediately thought, shook up the farm. Which they did do.

Yeah, but if they start putting together a team of Kalish/Coghlan/Ruggiano types and completely whiff on Scherzer or Shields while making no attempt at guys that are ready to go, you'll know the parallel front isn't quite ready to go yet.

My problem is with people saying there's no reason to have Bryant or Baez or whoever break camp with the big club next year.

UM YES THERE IS IT'S CALLED IF THEY WANT TO WIN GAMS YOU [expletive] DOLTS.

I would bring up Bryant, Soler, and Baez and turn them loose on the women RIGHT A [expletive] WAY I HAVE NO DESIRE TO WASTE ANY PART OF ANY MORE SEASONS FOR THE SIMPLE SAKE OF AN EXTRA YEAR OF CONTROL AT THIS POINT. IF THEY ARE GOOD GIVE THEM A BILLION DOLLARS I DONT CARE BECAUSE IT'S NOT MY MONEY YOU [expletive] SLACKJAWS

I really hope they work out a long term deal with Bryant over the offseason so he can start the season with the team. Maybe Russell, too. Then if Alcantara comes up this year, that would give them 4 guys (those 3 plus Soler) who wouldn't have service time concerns.

Scott Boras is Bryant's agent. You know he won't allow his clients to get lowballed like that.

I would think immediate financial security outweighs striking while the iron is hot in 6 years when you're an unproven commodity.

There would be a lot more Evan Longoria, Jon Singleton type deals if this were true.

This is one of those weird trades where both teams trade from weaknesses to strengths, both ends make sense, and both teams are better for it.

I think there are less of those because there are teams out there who aren't interested in paying more than league minimum for their young players. They want to milk them for every cent they're worth before they're forced to pony up. It's two different strategies. Those who are extending early are taking a gamble on their talent and betting that they are legitimately worth an extension. It has more to do with teams rather than the players. I bet every single player wants to immediately make $5 million a year their first season in the bigs instead of $425,000 or whatever league minimum is these days. It's the teams that don't want to pay them.

I really doubt we're these guys for pitching. Theo had some quotes yesterday talking about the volatility of younger arms and not seeing even value with them. There was much more to it, but the gist to me sounded like older guys provide more value and to expect FA to be the answer.

I'm perfectly happy with a rotation full of Arrietas and Hammels with a lineup that scores 20 runs per game.
