Published report says #Indians could have dealt Lindor, Naquin and Salazar to #Cubs for Samardzija and Hammell. Indians refused the trade.

I definitely prefer Russell over Lindor, but I also like Salazar over the other two players we got.

Meh, I read that article earlier and the author was just saying that's what the Indians would have had to throw out there to match the value or something IIRC, and asking fans if they should do it.

What was the article?

http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2014/07/this_week_in_baseball_6.html#incart_m-rpt-1

Sounds like the Cubs talked about Shark solo awhile ago, asked if Lindor was available, Indians said no and then hoped for Hammell after that. I feel like the Hammell, Naquin, and Salazar, etc. inclusions are just thrown in to hypothetically ask if the Indians should have matched the A's offer, not that there was every any serious discussion on it. But maybe i'm wrong.

The Indians talked to the Cubs about Samardzija and Hammel. It would have cost them Francisco Lindor, Tyler Naquin and Danny Salazar to make the same kind of deal that the A's did. Lindor was the Tribe's No.1 pick in 2011 and Naquin their No.1 pick in 2012. Salazar started last year's wild-card game.

The Tribe was firm about not trading Lindor. They backed off Samardzija and concentrated on Hammel. The Cubs, however, felt they could get the biggest return by putting both pitchers in the same package.

You're right that it reads that way in the first paragraph, but the second makes it seem like, at the very least, Lindor was discussed.

3-14, but yeah it's amazing

And I somehow managed to be at two of those games (both of his wins).

Jason Parks on May 31st:

@ProfessorParks: @spncrpatterson They didn't net a top 15-20 prospect in Garza deal. Unlikely to net a top 15-20 prospect in Shark deal either.

Plus, he'd just point out that the Cubs had to include both Shark and Hammel to get a return that high.

That can't even compare to what they thought after Arrieta's Red Sox start.
