And Samardzija shuts their asses down in his first start. I wonder if a tiny part of the A's trade was A) to give both pitchers away so the Jays would get neither or B) done in time to have Shark pitch against them to rub it in.

Absolutely nothing. My best guess is, that Beane told Epstein that to get Russel, he had to include both pitchers. Then Epstein said, well what else can ya give me?

The apologist posse pounces

Because everyone who isn't frothing mad at the FO is an Pollyanna-ish apologist, right?

Felix Leiter's post was pretty gross, though. Chad Fox?

It's so bad that goony of all people was forced into *almost* defending Hendry.

There's defending the plan and then there's rubbing noses in it. There were very valid points on both sides. It's not like the guys who wanted winning earlier are out there screaming against these type of moves. They're intelligent and know a good move when they see one. But even as I'm a guy that defended this way, doing it the other way could have worked too.(if money was available)

Who is rubbing anyone's noses in anything? It was just flat out wrong, talking about the Cubs being tied up by contracts that Hendry was giving out to his "buddies." It was practically gibberish.

Didn't you know that Hendry and Henry Blanco were best bros?

I wonder who the friends commentary was in reference to. Maybe Samardzija, considering all the talk about Hendry and the ND coach being buddies and that playing a role in the Cubs drafting him and then giving him a big league contract to convince him to give up football?

I thought Hendry and Koyie Hill were best buds.

Truly we are still feeling the brutal effects of the bro-ish contract Bob Howry got.

Everyone knows Soto was the catcher with the best buds.

hendry's best friend was the baseball coach at that high school in florida that sent us all their power hitters who looked good in the minors for ten minutes

And there's a nifty u-turn to take the thread off course.

AND THERE WAS STILL SO MUCH NEWS WE WERE WAITING FOR.

Will the PTBNL be terrible or a pile of money? Oh, God, the agony.

Cashman told Francesa that he was in constant contact with the Cubs and that GM Theo Epstein was intrigued by a few of the Yankees’ proposals, but pretty much made it clear that if he could get blue chip shortstop prospect Addison Russell from Oakland it would mark a point of no return.

“I think we were certainly in the arena. The fact that Theo was engaging me as much as he was, I know he likes our players. I know there’s packages that had interested him for one or both combined that could have worked, but he always measured every conversation with me with ‘there’s a headliner player that if I can get, and I think I might be able to do so, it trumps every deal I could do in this game,’” Cashman said.

Also, that more or less confirms that Theo does all the real work and Hoyer just fetches coffee or something.

He is so full of [expletive], talk about trying to save face on local radio with an organization apologist. I am sure Theo did one of the hold the phone a foot away from his ear deals while Cashman talked, told him they would think it over and never returned the call.

They've always said that there are guys that Hoyer has more of a rapport with that he does the negotiating with and there are guys Theo has more of a rapport with who he does most of the talking with.

That's been pretty much a given since day one.
