    I have been living in a Cubs bubble. It burst tonight. I have been all out of sorts. I have been trying to sum up my words and my feeling of loss but it keeps ending up as incoherent junk. I know I should still be enjoying the championship but I just want to watch this team play more playoff baseball. I makes me sad that I have to wait until April to watch next year's squad play a meaningful game.

    I just heard Len say that Fred passed at the end of the Cubs game and my heart sank. He was such a pleasant and friendly guy when we met up with a couple others for a game about 10 years ago. I feel for his family, losing someone that quickly is such a shock.

    I really could do witout the "comparisons" that are almost entirely due to race. "He was once a Juco shortstop (and he's got dark skin)" so obviously he is the next Reggie Sanders.

    I think Theo might actually immediately walk out the door and fly home to Boston if Ricketts decided to cap his payroll at $50M because he didn't think starting pitching was worth spending on. I'd be surprised if noticed, so long as his draft and minor-league budgets weren't hit. I have actually heard that Theo tries to come up with one way to shunt money from the major league club to the minors and draft every day.

    This is not at all true, they feel targeted because they are one of the teams using these different angles to exploit the rules and the loopholes keep getting closed on them. They feel targeted because they have invested millions in the Dominican academy and next year was their next turn to blow their load on the international market. It's not like they just joined the game and it got shut on them, they were one of the teams that started the trend and were among the most heavily invested.
