more details/links to details about the presser would be appreciated. i want to hear everything about shark's newfound freedom!

Definitely took a couple shots at the Cubs.

Judging from that press conference, I underestimated his desire to leave.

I don't question his desire to leave the Cubs and be in a better current situation. I just don't get how a seemingly smart guy does not understand what the Cubs are doing.

Why do you think he doesn't understand? He wants to be on a team in a better position to win ASAP and he wants to make as much money as possible, and the Cubs are not willing/able to do either. The Cubs are in a great position to start kicking ass in a couple years, but he's older now and wants to get paid.

Hey you're a guy in a sport where lately guys have been falling off cliffs post-30 and also you play a position known for having your body fall apart without warning at any time and possibly ending you career.

Do you mind spending 5 years in baseball hell and then maybe 2 or three more because we've got a plan to be awesome when you're 33?

No? Pffft, I can't believe you don't understand.

Watching that video alone I don't hear anything that Shark said that was a shot at the Cubs or that was at all surprising. There have been rumors that Shark has wanted out for a couple of years. I pretty much expected that Shark was excited to go out and pitch for a contender. I don't think it means he hated the Cubs or didn't understand what the Cubs were trying to do or anything.

No shots taken at the Cubs. The only desire I see from that PC was for the team he was playing for to be trying to win. That's all he's been saying this whole time. Shark's just has the balls to say the things most players are thinking. It's the FO job to build for the future, but a player's desire to win now.

They'll get over it by next spring, but I imagine there are some really pissed off players in the Cubs' locker room right now.

Yeah, Bryant and Baez will make them forget. :)

Yeah, but as long as its not Rizzo, Castro or Arrieta, who gives a flying [expletive]? Guys who aren't in our future plans can be pissed off all they want as far as I'm concerned.

I'd think those would be three of the guys most annoyed about the situation.

Maybe Castro but the two other guys were brought here as part of the rebuilding plan so I don't really see why they would be upset. To me it would be more Edwin Jackson and Barney if anyone.

I think everyone knows what is going on and a good portion of the clubhouse is fine with it because they may not even be on a major league roster if the Cubs were actually acting like a major market team right now.

I doubt it. Maybe Arrieta. Rizzo and Castro are young and have known the plan for awhile. Doesn't make sense to be annoyed when the Cubs had zero chance this season and Russell will likely be ready next season.

Not sure if people would be interested in my writing but I definitely would struggle to string along regular time.

Done!

I'd have a hard time believing that Jake Arrieta, who was all but given up on by one team and who put together a spectacular month of June after missing all of April this season, is too concerned about winning right now. I'd imagine he is more worried about pitching well and continuing to establish himself.

The best 3 players on the team were recently highly regarded minor leaguers. They know they have a bunch of highly regarded minor leaguers close to the majors. They also knew Shark wanted out. Castro, Rizzo and Arrieta shouldn't be too upset. The rest of the team may be because they are either veterans who may not be around or guys who stand to lose their jobs when the kids come up. Wood may have the only gripe.

They have to go out there and play baseball every day and try to win games and it's probably kind of annoying to think "Hey, we've won four in a row and have been playing pretty good for two months" and then all of a sudden you're losing 13-0 and Villanueva/Rusin are piggybacking.

This is silly, nobody likes to lose and the fact that these guys are young doesn't mean they're all on board for losing to win. If you don't think castro is annoyed at his 5th consecutive sell-off I don't know what to tell you. Arrieta came from a team that was losers forever, finally broke through to the playoffs and is immediately sent to another organization losing forever..

They don't give a [expletive] about the plan

This. The ones who are probably pissed are the ones who know the FO and fan base don't want them around next year.

Nobody is saying they are completely ok with everything. But they know the plan. They are a part of it. They knew Samardzija didn't want to be a part of the plan. They probably knew he was going to get traded. They have every right to be pissed he did get traded, but they are stupid if they think they had a shot this year. They aren't good enough right now with Shark and Hammel. This move gives them a chance to be good soon. And when Castro and Rizzo signed contracts thru 2019, they knew they would suffer a few years.

Knowing the plan and actively participating in 90 loss seasons every year are entirely different subjects. Knowing the plan and having a good idea that you are part of that plan does not erase the depressing nature of playing for a team that can't win and isn't even trying to win.

If Castro and Rizzo are pissed then it's probably directed at themselves or their agents for the awesome team-friendly deals they signed with a last place team...

It's not like they signed those deals coming off the 2008 season here, or anything.

Wow! You must be good friends with them to know exactly what they are thinking.

“That’s baseball. That’s business,” Castro said Saturday at Nationals Park. “One day, those guys are coming up here and we’ll play together, no matter how or where.”

“A lot of great talent,” Castro said. “They know what they’re doing.”

Maaaaaaaaaan, does he seem ANGRY
