Normally I love what AA is doing. But I'm not thrilled with his side of this one.

He could have had Reyes/Buehrle last year if he liked those contract figures. But they're backloaded deals and they're a year older now. Escobar, Hechavarria, Alvarez, Nicolino, DeSclafani, Marsinik, and Mathis for Bonifacio, Johnson, and Buck is less attractive. I realize that with the Blue Jays on the win curve where they are, Reyes and Buehrle might have more value now than they did a year ago, but for this to be a good deal I really think they need to be getting money back.

Of course, that doesn't mean the Marlins aren't a freaking joke.

I'm not gonna do whatever body thinks I'm gonna do and freak out! Ugh, I need a bath.

Hahahaha. This is gold.

Is there anyway the Cubs can get Morrison, Stanton, and/or Nolasco.

edit: WOW, Nolasco is going to be 30 next month? Nevermind on him. I'll take the other 2 though.

#Marlins only team that charges media to park, and you must buy it on their Web site and pay handling fees, too. Cost $78 for 4-game series.

Seriously, Bud needs to get that team away from Loria.

Bud and Loria are best friends. He let Loria destroy baseball in Montreal, now he's letting him do it in Miami. Loria continues to get richer by his business practices, that's called arbitrage my friends.

Would Shark/Baez/Vogelbach/Vitters be close for Stanton? Or does Shark make too much money for the Marlins to take him on? LoMo would be a great get as well and would certainly be much, much cheaper. Honestly, Soriano fits Toronto bigtime right now, especially if we ate a bunch of money. They're obviously going for it, maybe we'd be able to snag something decent from them.

I love LoMo.

Though on the inside I bet he's feeling a lot more like Scarface quitting the burger job. That's video is NSFW due to some potty-mouthed potheads, just a heads up.

MLB needs to do something because Loria just completely screwed that entire town and the players.

Nobody seemed to care when he did it to Montreal

Besides they can't be expected to compete without a new stadium

I have nothing to say other than ... damn. This one sure was a surprise. My first reaction was that this was a blow away win for Toronto, as they gave up a couple intriguing pieces, but it doesn't feel like they gave up anything that's worth regretting considering they majorly upgrade their squad for next year. If they fall out of contention, they could always try to spin Josh Johnson off. The more I look at it, the more I sorta like the Marlins return. Still think, if I had to pick a winner/loser, it's the Blue Jays, as they have a clear opening in the AL East with the aging Yankees, the Rays sort of in neutral/slightly downgrading, the Orioles likely over-achieving last year, and the Red Sox rebuilding. That said, Marisnick, Alvarez, and Hechavarria is a solid trio of prospects, and Nicolino/DeSclafani are decent arms.

Damn ... a shocker this early.

If I'm the Cubs, the Dodgers, etc. I am quite unpleased that I am forced to send money to the Marlins that they then pocket instead of putting into the org. Revenue sharing only exists for competitive balance, and furthermore NO ONE turns on the TV to watch the Marlins, but they get money for both. IMO there should be a rule that a team's total expenditure (MLB, MiLB, FO) should have to be greater than the sum of the money that team gets from the league pot.

There's a special place in hell for Loria and his cronies. What a disgusting organization.

...and of course, they have two world champions in the last 15 years. There really is no such thing as karma in sports.

I really wonder how bad attendance is going to be at their new stadium next year. I mean, it was below expectations this year, and they had an interesting team entering the year.

I doubt Shark makes sense for the Marlins.

In general, I doubt they move Stanton or LoMo unless it's a ridiculous deal. They still need something to draw some fans to their new park, and those guys are cheap. In a year or two, perhaps (and that could fit well with our timeline ... so maybe it's something to ponder a year or two from now).

Still ... it's not like the Blue Jays gave up an elite prospect. Marisnick is close, perhaps, but not elite. I like the five prospects they got back, it's a decent package of guys, but the Blue Jays didn't give up anyone that they, as of now, they might regret, and they kept their higher ceiling pitching (Nicolino, for all he was talked about, was more of a high floor guy, as much as a pitching prospect can be a high floor guy).

If for some reason, things go bad, they could probably spin Josh Johnson off at the deadline and get 1-2 interesting prospects (assuming Johnson is pitching well and healthy).

I see what you are getting at, but all in all, it's hard not to understand why he had to make this move if it was offered. It's a lot of money to take on, but baseball is flush with money, and the Blue Jays have always indicated they had room to spend in recent years. If they could afford those two deals from a financial perspective, this was, IMO, a no-brainer move for them.

But that's me.

Sure there is; those championships are all but meaningless in name only. They just flushed out most of the key players right after each one, and everyone is as apathetic as possible about this team. Sure, they won...but who cares?

Because these players would have signed to play in Toronto instead of Miami? Dubious.

This.

Also, good [expletive] luck to the Marlins ever: a.) Landing a big name free agent; and b.) Getting any halfway decent player to sign without a no-trade clause; while Loria still owns the team. This has got to leave them with a terrible reputation among players.

Yeah, who cares? It's not like they beat any other teams on the way to those titles OH WAIT

How much money was "shared" via the shared revenue this year? I agree that the MLB payroll should have to be at least that of the shared revenue.

It's all completely hypothetical and pointless, but the next Cubs fan who tells me they wouldn't want to trade too many top prospects for Stanton because we're rebuilding is getting dick-punched.

Implying people have already said that? I'm a prospect nut, but Stanton? Come on, you give up whatever it takes, if he's available.
