Only one of them was a top 20 prospect going into this year. After looking at their numbers I'm seeing a whole lot of mediocrity. I also just noticed the Cubs are sending money. It would have been nice if they could have gotten one good prospect if they were going to fork over cash too.

Good Luck D Lee. He was one of my favorites of the last few years.

Can you imagine him facing Woody in the Series? That would be fun to watch!

Posted

gonna be funny to see him play this weekend against us... I won't say it, because it doesn't even matter.

Now let's take the question mark and annoying lower case out of the title!

More pitchers, huh? Whoopie

The Cubs don't believe in trying to acquire power bats. They're busy filling up the minors so no starter can go more than 2 innings.

Lopez is only 19 and in low-A. His numbers look decent, I guess it all depends on scouting for him. I get the impression he has good stuff with bad control.

Harris looks like he could be a very good reliever.

Lorick is putting up fairly good numbers but he's a 22 year old in low-A (I think it's low). Meh.

I'll have to wait on the scouting report for Lopez. If he's got some promise, along with Harris, I'd say not bad.

Lopez is still young. Other guys look like filler. Good luck D Lee. One of the best Cubs of the decade without a doubt.

It's kind of frustrating that they gave him away for nothing real good and payed for him. Hendry's GM nickname is probably "Niceguy Jim".

I'm personally very happy to see what we got in return for an old Derrek Lee who has back problems, quite a bit still owed to him (even with money going to Atlanta), and grounds into more double plays than anyone should. I expected to have to pay all of his remaining salary for a nobody minor leaguer.

Lorick is a lefty with nice numbers this year. Harris and Lopez seem to have nice upside. Remember what we got for Mark DeRosa! Nobody knew those guys either and they are now doing pretty well - especially Chris Archer. I don't expect these guys to be nearly as good, but hopefully one of them turns into a major leaguer or trade bait!!!

Who cares who we got? At least we don't have to worry about Hendry shelling out eight or nine million for Lee in the offseason.

I care because if the organization has money to piss away on trades like this with no particularly prominent prospect then they should have had the same money to spend on the draft but they didn't.

I like Harris's 60 k's in 49 IP. Although he does have 22 BB. No HR, though. I can see him being a pretty good reliever. He put up really good numbers last year, too. Only pitched 17 innings, but had 24 K's and a 1.04 ERA.

Excited is certainly an interesting word to use there.

Yeah, shocking the old washed up 1Ber who's OPSing .750 who has shown he's only willing to waive his no trade for a few teams for a 5 week rental didn't land us a huge haul.

Though I was excited when we got him, he had a better run in Chicago than I expected. He had 2 terrific years, 1 outstanding year and 3 decent years while playing really good defense and being a good dude. Godspeed D-Lee.

I'm going to miss him, but I happy that the Cubs are actually getting rid of him at the right time. Well, last year would have been ideal, but at least we aren't the team acquiring an old aging slugger. Kind of refreshing for a change.

Who knows what these 3 guys will bring us, but it's better than nothing.

I never thought they would get much; my problem is that they sent money too. You don't send money if you're getting this type of return. Especially when you're apparently so strapped for cash you put together the type of draft the Cubs did.

Now that the trade is final...

Derek finished all-time among Cubs (with at least 1500 PA for rate stats)...

#31 Plate Appearances

#13 OB%

#4 SLG%

#4 OPS

#13 Adjusted OPS+

#16 doubles

#11 Home Runs

#16 Runs created

#7 strike outs

#9 double plays grounded into

#8 AB/HR

He's also top-10 all-time in Cubs history in a bunch of SABRE-metric stuff like RE24, WPA, WPA/LI, and REW.

All my Braves fan friends are thrilled. I keep trying to inform them how uninspiring Lee has been this year, but they're convinced he'll go on one of his patented "Late season tears" and that Glaus is a train wreck of a player, even though they've been virtually identical this year offensively

Scouting the Sally's report. That's one of the better prospect blogs out there, by the way. Tops out at 96 with the fb, raw secondary stuff (curve and change) that could pan out pretty well. He's had some recent struggles.

Still, even if his curve and change don't develop as hoped, his fb should play up in the majors in relief.

Harris looks like he could be a very good reliever.

Fast mover, fb (88-92)-slider (high 70s) combination at Tennessee in the rotation that looked decent. Could see the majors next year.

Yep. Still, he's having a good enough year to get bumped up to High A.

So who takes Lee's place on the Cubs? Hoffpauir can't be recalled yet, right? Maybe an outfielder like Fuld with Nady becoming the temporary full-time first baseman?

I know it really doesn't matter, but I'm taking a trip to Iowa this weekend so I'm curious who I will or won't see there.
