On the possibility of Dee Gordon being traded:

Jason A. Churchill -- MLB Draft Blog/Rumor Central:

We wrote earlier this week that the Dodgers will not discuss Dee Gordon, so it'd have to be some outrageous no-brainer to change that.

Well, there goes that.

If anybody's going to change their mind with the trade deadline looming, it's Colletti, though. He did trade Carlos Santana and a prospect for Casey Blake.

You don't just let that good of a guitar player go for that little of a return. He should have at least gotten Richie Sambora along with Blake.

Sort of OT, but I'm listening to these guys (ok, meatheads) on the St. Louis ESPN radio affiliate and they're talking about how Theriot and Lilly would be a good fit for the Cards. The funny part is how one of them just said Theriot is a better defensive player than Brendan Ryan or Tyler Greene and hits as well as either one. The guy who said it is also the same guy who thought the Alex Gonzales that the Blue Jays just traded was the same one that booted the ball in the 2003 NLCS for the Cubs. Giant moron.

Is Ryan a good defender? I honestly have no idea

Do the Dodgers have any 1B prospects that are close to ready? Either we could trade for one of them, or possibly get Loney in a deal to replace DLee next year. I'd be willing to pay all of Lilly's remaining salary.

I realize this is an extreme longshot, before I get ripped to shreds. I know Loney is young and still pretty cheap so the Dodgers may not be willing to part with him.

Sands has to be close.

3:18pm: The Reds have a "remote" chance of obtaining Lilly, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (Twitter links). The clubs haven't spoken in recent days, but the Reds are not on Lilly's no-trade list.

2:10pm: The Tigers still aren't out on Lilly, reports ESPN's Jayson Stark. He adds that a mystery team is in the mix. Hard to pin down a reasonable match, with the Padres not interested.

Rosenthal tweets that the Dodgers are more inclined to get Lilly without Theriot.

Yes, very good.

So, he's Adam Everett.

Except he can actually hit a little bit when his brain doesn't get in the way. Really, he's kind of Theriot with a little better speed and a lot better defense. He's just not having a very good year. He's probably not as good offensively as I remember him being last year, but he's not nearly as bad as he's been this year

Gammons thinks Lilly will stay. Said the Cubs would ideally like to trade him and possibly look to resign him. Doesn't think they are getting what he is worth, and if they don't, will not trade him.

I just saw both guys on MLB Network (not sure who they were) say they thought Lilly would stay with the Cubs. Nice job Jim.

It wouldn't shock me at all if we sat on a valuable trading chip and didn't move him, and then got absoultely nothing for him after he leaves in FA. It's the Cubs way.

If the Cubs keep him they WILL offer him arbitration and we'd at least get draft pick compensation. I know that hasn't been Hendry's MO in the past but I don't think even he is stupid enough to let Lilly go for absolutely no return. Hopefully Ricketts wouldn't even allow him to do that.

Well, if they're not getting the offers they want for Lilly, I'm glad they're just going to hold onto him. I'd rather do that than get a lousy return. I'd blame Jim more for doing a lousy trade than not doing one at all.

Now...if they hold onto him and then either: 1) re-sign him or 2) not offer arbitration, then I'll be pissed.

If trading Zambrano is priority number 1 this offseason, resigning Lilly will be priority 1.1.

I agree. The word the past two weeks has been that the Cubs would most definitely trade Lilly. If they do not by the trade deadline, then the likelihood is that they didn't get offers they felt were of adequate value. In that scenario, I'm fine with them not trading him.

I don't think Z plays into this at all, to be honest. They've been discussing trading Z for nearly a week now (whenever I started the Cubs shopping Z thread). During that time, they've been furiously (reportedly) trying to trade Lilly. I don't see how Z fits into them deciding not to trade Lilly.

Could make a move for Cliff Lee, but that will be expensive.

I've heard that he'd accept arb if offered.

That's fine with me if he does. It would only be for one year and they could try to trade him again next year.

Some guy at the bus stop said he thought I would get aqua socks for my birthday. I hate my mom so much.
