Gammons thinks Lilly will stay. Said the Cubs would ideally like to trade him and possibly look to resign him. Doesn't think they are getting what he is worth, and if they don't, will not trade him.

I just saw both guys on MLB Network (not sure who they were) say they thought Lilly would stay with the Cubs. Nice job Jim.

Some guy at the bus stop said he thought I would get aqua socks for my birthday. I hate my mom so much.

It wouldn't shock me at all if we sat on a valuable trading chip and didn't move him, and then got absoultely nothing for him after he leaves in FA. It's the Cubs way.
If the Cubs keep him they WILL offer him arbitration and we'd at least get draft pick compensation. I know that hasn't been Hendry's MO in the past but I don't think even he is stupid enough to let Lilly go for absolutely no return. Hopefully Ricketts wouldn't even allow him to do that.

Yeah absolutely. I think the difference between Lilly and Wood is that JH didn't want to pay Wood however much he was getting to close, plus with Wood's injury history and loyalty to the Cubs, there was actually a chance Wood could accept arbitration. In Lilly's case, Hendry doesn't have to have Lilly back next year but probably wouldn't complain if he did come back at all. There's no way Hendry declines to offer him arby.

#Cubs and #Reds have spoken about Ted Lilly, but not in recent days. Possibility is "remote" right now, source says.

I would hope that it would at least involve a prospect.

Nothing all that new. On the Dodgers:

Jason A. Churchill -- MLB Draft Blog/Rumor Central:

In on Lilly, perhaps Ryan Theriot, too, and Paul Maholm. Any deal must be small in terms of taking on salary, or the other club must send cash, making any trade difficult to complete.

Holding pattern.

Jason A. Churchill -- MLB Draft Blog/Rumor Central:

The latest is that the Dodgers and Twins are in on the left-hander, but the Padres are focusing more on Paul Maholm, as are the Dodgers. Detroit could have interest in Lilly, too, and we can never count out the Yankees, who are very familiar with Lilly, of course.

8:59pm: The Yankees are still in on Lilly, according to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times (Twitter link). The Padres had discussions about Lilly, but nothing is imminent, according to Dan Hayes of the North County Times (Twitter link).

I hope Hendry doesn't stop the dealing at just Lilly. He has to be attempting to dump Theriot/Baker/Hill/Nady for anything.

Am I imnagining things, or are the Reds supposed to have a decent 1B prospect whose blocked by Votto? I wouldnt mind sending Lilly to Dusty Baker and his reds, but Id sure like to get something good return, because if we get that Chris Heisey character, Ill be annoyed.

9:49pm: The only thing preventing the Cubs from sending Lilly to the Dodgers is money, according to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark (via Twitter). The clubs can't agree on how much money the Cubs would take on, but it could be enough to prevent a deal from happening.

I wouldn't mind seeing Lilly go to Minnesota.

Apparently Lilly would mind though. IIRC the Twins are on his NTC list.

Yeah, I know. I always wonder though if they change their minds over time. A lot can change, the Twins are in the race and play in a new park. That might matter, then again it might not.

Yeah thats what I was thinking with regards to Minnesota. I bet Lilly didn't want to play in the Metrodome.

Honestly, I have ZERO faith that we'll do the right thing here, in any way, shape, or form. If we don't get enough for him in trade and keep him, we'll either re-sign him to a multi year deal or not offer arbitration.

You would be correct. They have Yonder Alonso, who has been ranked #35 prospect in America in 2009 and #45 in 2010. He only has a .282/.358/.437/.795 line in the minors, but he's only 23 in AAA.

Wouldnt the Metrodome have been the perfect for for Lilly?

Damn it. Pick up salary and let Colletti overpay with prospects.

Olney is reporting the Dodgers and Cubs are closing in on a Lilly deal.

[quoteDodgers, Cubs Nearing Ted Lilly Deal

By Tim Dierkes [July 30 at 10:53pm CST]

10:53pm: The Dodgers and Cubs are closing in on a deal, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney (via Twitter).

10:37pm: The Cubs are discussing two possible scenarios with the Dodgers, according to ESPNLosAngeles.com's Tony Jackson. One would send Lilly to LA and the other would send Lilly to LA along with teammate Ryan Theriot. FOX Sports reported early this morning that the Dodgers could acquire Theriot. ESPN.com's Jayson Stark confirms that the Yankees are in on Lilly and notes that they also inquired on Theriot (Twitter link).

Tomorrow could be like baseball christmas morning(or chanukah in my case). hopefully we dont end up with tube socks or a hand knit nordic sweater.

For what it's worth, during yesterday's game between The Pads and Dodgers, Coletti was on-air and said he didn't see ANYONE available that would make him think of parting with his best prospects......Obviously, could be posturing and all, but if so, it's kind of a dumb way to treat any fans who know anything about the minors, if you DO go out and overpay for someone.
