About time the NCAA got to the BYU online classes.

nathan scheelhaase has been named the illini's starting qb. that's pretty cool, i'm kind of excited and optimistic about this year. 7-5 could be a reasonable goal, considering the rbs are both back and the offensive line could be much improved

I can't believe that Ron Zook is the best Illinois can get and if that's the mentality of the alumni and fan base then they deserve what they get. There's gotta be a multitude of up and comers that would love to coach a program with Illinois' resources.

But what are those resource advantages? When I was growing up Illinois was definitely an after thought for football players. If that's all you could get, you'd go, but there were bigger and better options in and out of the Big Ten. Their stadium sucks. They hold no national cache. And they even occasionally take the back seat to their little brother in Evanston. Illinois is in a tough spot. If they could find the next up and coming genius, that guy isn't staying there very long unless he's an Illini diehard. They need a recruiter to attract talent, as the school can't attract it on it's own.

Big state, good conference, good media market, always on TV. The stature of Illinois isn't what it should be precisely because they haven't made the right hires. If they find the next up and coming genius he'll leave the program in better shape moving forward and the job will be more attractive. Zook is just going to leave a mess for the next middling retread to fail at fixing.

There's no reason, other than stupidity, that a school like Cincinnati--which is undoubtedly a less name program than UI-- can hire someone like Brian Kelly while Illinois ends up with Zook.

ESPN.com"]Iowa running back Jewel Hampton was arrested early Saturday for public intoxication and underage presence at a liquor establishment after his alleged involvement in fights at an Iowa City bar.

Hampton, a candidate for Iowa's starting running back spot this fall, was arrested at 1:46 a.m. Saturday at Vito's, a restaurant and bar located near the University of Iowa campus. Police responded to Vito's after staff had reported a large fight in the back of the bar, Iowa City police Lt. Bill Campbell told ESPN.com.

Staff and patrons told police that Hampton, 20, had been causing problems. Hampton had a preliminary breath test reading at 2:35 a.m. that showed a blood-alcohol level of .091.

"Based on their investigation, officers determined that Mr. Hampton was actively involved in several physical confrontations within the bar," Campbell told ESPN.com.

Charest to transfer

Talk about being young at QB, it doesnt get much younger than the Illini this year. Id think they have to at least let McGee get some reps in case something happens.

It's Illinois preview week at the Mizzou site I frequent, and I thought the Illinois fans might like these Offensive and Defensive previews. They're pretty detailed and heavy on empirics.

ESPN.com"]USC will hold a news conference Thursday to respond to the NCAA's findings following its investigation into possible violations by the Trojans' football and men's basketball programs, a source with direct knowledge of the situation told ESPN's Joe Schad.

The NCAA infractions committee held a hearing in February in which USC presented its responses to allegations of NCAA violations. Results of the report have been expected for several weeks.

One more:

ESPN.com"]Jeremiah Masoli's career at Oregon is over.

Already serving a season-long suspension for his involvement in a fraternity house burglary in January, Masoli was kicked off the football team Wednesday after he was cited by police on charges of possessing less than one ounce of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and failure to stop at a driveway or a sidewalk, according to the Eugene Register-Guard.

it's hard for me to get behind someone that young. You don't want them to be too loose out there, but the younger they are, the tighter they get. It can be fun ride for a while, but most of the time it's just too hard.

Bruce Feldman on ESPN said on Twitter that USC will be receiving a two-year postseason ban too. But I haven't seen any further confirmation on that.

Welp.

Not that I'm the world's biggest hockey fan or anything but this sorta takes the wind out of my sails for the Blackhawks. The 2004 national championship is probably going to be vacated too.
