Bad for Vandy. I heard the idea that they should look at Fulmer to fill the position and I think it's a great idea.

Apparently he just got fed up with the daily grind and frustrated by the program's slow growth, so he retired.

Assistant coach Robbie Caldwell is now the interim head coach.

Interesting. I hadn't heard a reason why, only "personal reasons."

This is a really strange time to be stepping down.

I did read that he said it was not due to any health concerns (either his or his family's).

the timing of his retirement is odd with the season about to begin....could he have waited until now to retire thinking this will insure that one of his guys (Assistant coach Robbie Caldwell ) would get a shot to prove himself as a head coach?

Lambeau Field has expressed interest in hosting a potential Big Ten championship game, along with Soldier Field, Ford Field, and Lucas Oil Stadium.

I'm sure there will be a rotation, but as much as I hate the Packers, I'd rather have it played outdoors in Lambeau than inside in Indy.

There wouldn't be an empty seat at Lambeau for a game between any teams. Same goes for Soldier Field and Indy. Detroit, though, I'm not so sure.

The problem has nothing to do with the weather. It's the location. Not a fun drive from Penn State or Ohio State.

I'd like to see it at Lambeau or Soldier Field. The game should be outdoors, as no team in the Big Ten plays dome football. Additionally both venues are historically rich. I think Lambeau would offer an excellent tailgating scene compared to Chicago, but there are practicalities such as a small airport, and limited hotel rooms within reasonable driving distance. Green Bay has Chicago beat on capacity as well. My gut tells me it will end up in Indy though, which does not excite me at all.

Strange things going on at North Carolina:

Joe Schad"]The NCAA asked UNC players this week about agents and possible gifts or extra benefits

One person said the questions from the NCAA to UNC players were intended to "make sure no Reggie Bush stuff is going on."

One person said UNC's star football players such as Marvin Austin were among those interviewed by the NCAA

UNC football players were asked by the NCAA to provide phone records to prove which agents they had spoken with.

Marvin Austin was asked by the NCAA who paid for his recent trip to Miami. And players were asked about travel.

UNC players were asked by the NCAA who was paying for their rent.

Two sources described the amount of agent activity in Chapel Hill this offseason as "hectic.

UNC DL Marvin Austin was asked why he was seen driving the vehicle of 49er Kentwan Balmer and if he stayed at Balmer's apartment

Lambeau would be pretty cool, as would Soldier Field. I think Soldier Field makes more sense from a geographical point of view, but I think everyone knows that the field itself would be in pretty poor shape in early December.

If Lucas Oil gets it (which I'm sure it will), the Big Ten should move the basketball tournament back to Chicago.

In addition to the investigation at UNC, we have

ESPN"]South Carolina tight end Weslye Saunders confirmed Sunday that he recently spoke with NCAA investigators in connection with a probe of the North Carolina football program.

Saunders, considered one of the top tight ends in the country, is close friends with Tar Heels defensive end Marvin Austin, who was also recently questioned by investigators.

On Thursday, a source said that UNC football players -- including Austin -- were being interviewed by the NCAA this week and asked questions about agents and whether anyone had received gifts or extra benefits.

The source also said that the NCAA's questions to players were intended to "make sure no Reggie Bush stuff is going on."

"I'm not really sure what's going on right now in terms of who's in trouble and how much," Saunders said Sunday.

Another source who has visited with Saunders said Sunday the NCAA is interested in time Saunders spent with Austin in South Florida this spring and who paid for hotel rooms and travel.

and

ESPN"]Florida and NCAA officials are investigating a potential rules violation that allegedly occurred last December involving former Gators football standout Maurkice Pouncey, sources said.

Florida is internally investigating what sources described as an allegation that a representative of an agent paid Pouncey $100,000 between the Gators' loss to Alabama in the Southeastern Conference championship game to Alabama and their season-ending Sugar Bowl victory over Cincinnati. Florida apprised the NCAA of the allegation after it became aware of it.

........

If found to have accepted the alleged payment, he could be retroactively ruled ineligible for the game and Florida might have to vacate the victory.
