I'm amused that the Texas fans are so earnest in how they follow recruiting. What's the worst case scenario for them, "oh no we only got 95% of the best players in the best football state in the country!"

This is pretty much the recruiting season for UT. Usually not too much going on for them at the beginning of the year as they don't have any offers left except for guys waiting until signing day. Also beats reading about the Cubs right now.

Pretty much.

Also, just trying to enjoy this while it lasts. Doesn't seem that long ago (1996) that I was a freshman on campus, and beating Nebraska in the Big 12 CCG was the biggest thing for UT football since 1970.

AJC"]When he was stopped by a Georgia State Patrol trooper late Wednesday night, UGA Athletic Director Damon Evans was smiling and laughing, according to the just-released incident report.

But by the time he was booked into Atlanta City Jail on a DUI charge, Evans was "crying uncontrollably," said Trooper Mark Cabe, who pulled over Evans' 2009 BMW after he meandered across the center line of Roswell Road near Chastain Drive at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday.

Evans, who admitted to drinking three Vodka cocktails, began bargaining with the trooper as soon as he realized he might be placed under arrest. "I am not trying to bribe you but I'm the athletic director of the University of Georgia," said Evans, who refused a Breathalyzer.

The arrest report reveals several embarrassing details for the 40-year-old Evans, whose lucrative new five-year contract went into effect Thursday.

The passenger in Evans' 2009 BMW, 28-year-old Courtney Fuhrmann, was being "very loud and obnoxious and was obviously intoxicated," Cabe wrote. Fuhrmann, who Evans called "just a friend" at a press conference Thursday afternoon, was also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. He told the trooper "there was nothing there" between him and the Buckhead woman, "because he had a wife and family."

The trooper, who noted that Evans had a pair of red panties in between his legs, asked the athletic director "what her panties were doing in his side of the seat. He stated, ‘She took them off and I held them because I was just trying to get her home.' "

...............

Evans tried again: "I don't want you to use who I am but I would just ask that you take me to a motel."

After he was arrested, the father of two -- who refused a Breathalyzer -- told the trooper, "We go through life and we all drink and jump in a car."

And now he's losing his $550,000 a year salary as he's out of the job. At least he still has his whorey girlfriend/prostitute.

has it been confirmed that Seantrel ever actually signed his LOI? I've heard conflicting reports, so I was curious.

I heard he did. It would have been better not to (like Brandon Knight at UK), but I've heard he did.

USC sanctions have helped Tennessee.

USC defensive end Malik Jackson said Monday he will transfer to Tennessee, becoming the second Trojan to take advantage of NCAA-instituted bylaws that allow USC juniors and seniors to transfer without sitting out a year.

Asked if he had heard of his USC teammates considering possible transfers, Jackson was noncommittal.

"I don't know," Jackson said. "People are kind of keeping it quiet right now until they figure out what they're going to do."

Spongeworthy or another USC fan, any idea of how good Jackson is? Rivals had him as a 4-star out of HS, I believe.

Rotational lineman. The USC defensive line was average last year and he didn't see the field all the time.

I heard he was in the running to be a starter this year, but wasn't sure how accurate that was. Sounds like he could be a pretty good player by the 2011 season.

Lane Kiffin and USC officials offered to set up a game between USC and Tennessee for the 2011 season. Mike Hamilton turned it down – and for good reason. With that game, this would be our schedule to start the year:

USC (neutral site)

Cincinnati

@ Florida

@ North Carolina

Georgia

LSU

@ Alabama

Well, Texas was pretty good in the Earl Campbell years, until Joe Montana & Notre Dame kicked the ever-living crap out of them in the 1978 Cotton Bowl.

They had a few really good years (nearly won the National Championship in 1983) but a lot of mediocre ones too. From 1971 to 2001, they finished in the top 5 three or four times. The run they've been on recently (on the field and recruiting) likely isn't sustainable, so I'm going to enjoy that while it lasts.

UGA loves their drinking and driving:

ajc.com"]Georgia football players Dontavius Jackson and Tavarres King were arrested early this morning by UGA Police, according to Clarke County Jail records.

Jackson, 20, a backup running back, was charged with six misdemeanors: driving under the influence of alcohol, underage possession of alcohol, following too closely, leaving the scene of an accident, violation of the move-over law and violation of learner’s permit.

King, 19, a starting wide receiver, was charged with underage possession of alcohol.

Jackson was booked into the jail at 6:25 a.m. and has not been released, according to jail records. King was jailed at 5:55 a.m. and released at 7:05 a.m. on $500 bond.

UGA Police Chief Jimmy Williamson told the AJC late this morning that the arrests occurred after a series of events on East Campus Road.

Williamson said two patrol cars were making an unrelated traffic stop when another vehicle — later determined to be driven by Jackson — passed at an inappropriate speed and failed to move over. As one of the patrol cars began pursuit of Jackson for violating the move-over law, a third officer put out a radio report of an incident moments earlier in which a vehicle had left the scene of a minor accident, Williamson told the AJC. The vehicle that allegedly left the scene of the accident — a Chevrolet Avalanche — matched the description of the one being pursued for the move-over violation, Williamson said.

What the hell is going on in Tennessee? 10 UT Vol players where involved in a bar brawl in which one off duty cop who was working as a bouncer, was knocked out and severely beaten, and a couple other bouncers injuried. Darren Myles has already been kicked off the team. Greg King and another player suspended indefintately. I think Janzen Jackson is invloved.

Hey dew, what the hell is going on up with your boys?

I have no idea. They're apparently still trying to sort out who did the fighting and who was just there. It's a mess, but I've liked Dooley's handling of it so far.

I agree. I really do like Dooley and his handling of the situation. Man, what a crappy offseason for Tennessee. Here's to Dooley riding out the storm.

We're going to suck the next two years either way, so Dooley putting his foot down now is a good thing.

"I do feel responsible being connected with it," Carroll said of USC's troubles. "I've also felt a responsibility, with the way it's come down, to work to try to get the message out there and defend somewhat."
