I heard both Bruce Levine and Peter Gammons talk about a three way deal with DeRosa going to the Phillies today. Both think it's close and could go down today. I'll believe that report over anything Carrie Muskat says for now.

Well, Gammons seems to be wrong about 100% of the time too.

Yeah, but Gammons is basically just a roving reporter. He hears stuff like we hear stuff, then he reports on it. He's not "in the know" with any team, excluding maybe Boston.

I still think he has better sources then Muskat. Remember her Cubs source said they would offer Kerry Wood arb.

Steve Phillips giving us his highly detailed insight.

• There's still some talk that Padres right-hander Jake Peavy could be on his way to Chicago in a three-team deal involving the Phillies and Cubs.

He is the most useless person on all of ESPN in my opinion, and that is hard considering ESPN is FULL of useless people in every sport.

2:33pm: Carrie Muskat's Cubs source says DeRosa will not be traded.

Goodbye Mark.

I don't understand why we are so against anything that Muskat says? I know she's not one for hard hitting in depth analysis but when it comes to this kind of stuff I haven't seen a single reason to trust PETER EFFING GAMMONS over her. And its not like Bruce Levine is the press's very own HoopsCubs.

I have read stuff that says some GMs will basically throw Gammons a bone for being a lifer in the game from time to time......But yes he really never seems like he has any breaking scoop.

More from Steve Phillips...

His sources are telling him that Free Agent Pitcher CC Sabathia is leaning towards accepting a deal with the Yankees.

Pretty much, Gammons just rehashes stuff that has already been reported, unless it has to deal with the Red Sox/former Red Sox (Manny), he usually has pretty good info about them but the rest of his info when it doesn't involve the Red Sox is as likely to be right as any of the other stuff that's out there.

Bruce on the trade:
Not much going on in regards to that this morning. More later

LOL, we sit here refreshing this thread every 30 seconds for 5 hours this morning, get all these minor updates that suggest that a deal is getting closer, and then Bruce chimes in and sets us straight that almost nothing has gone on.

Except when he's predicting the Dodgers to beat the Cubs in the first round of the playoffs :(

I'm now picturing this group of guys no one knows with this fancy booth somewhere in the heart of the GM meetings where they just make up crazy stuff and feed it to the baseball writers who pass by from one meeting room to another to listen through the walls of the war room through a glass.

Steve Phillips was just on Espn with some interesting tidbit. Supposedly according to Philips the Cubs might not offer arbitration to Wood, he still thinks Wood will remain with the cubs at the end of the day. He's also reporting that the Cubs are having inner discussions about exercising Harden's option.

On the a side he believes the recent signing of Luis Salazar will fill the cubs void in left field.

Any word on if Andre Dawson wants to sign here?

Did he mention trading our starting SS for some young unknown kid named Sandberg?
