Has there been a Cub treated worse by Hendry in the last two offseasons? Last year, he leaves him out in the cold wondering whether or not the team is going to acquire a 2b that will take him out of the starting roster. This year, he is shopping him around in another deal looking like the BRob one as far as how everyone is saying something different every 5 minutes. I know that the life of a ballplayer, especially one of Derosa's type can never be sure where they'll end up, but still.

Yeah, my heart's just oozing with sympathy for the guy.

Especially considering Hendry was the only GM crazy enough to offer him a 3/$12MM deal at a time when everyone thought it was ridiculous. DeRosa should love Jim Hendry.

everyone on this board thought it was ridiculous. i didn't see any reports suggesting that other teams saw the contract and thought "oh man what the hell are the cubs doing?"

In fact, I remember that the buzz at the time was that the Phillies were strongly considering making DeRosa their starting third baseman after 2006 and were reportedly offering him 2 years for 8 or 9 million. When DeRosa took the 3 year deal with the Cubs instead, the Phillies went out and immediately went to their backup plan of Wes Helms.

Their new GM might have been the one in that organization who was pushing for DeRosa at the time, and so it isn't much of a surprise that they would show great interest in him again.

Yeah I do remember the Phillies wanting him to be their 3B in 06 and I think the Padres were actually looking at him to play 2B/3B for them too that offseason.

One Cubs official said earlier Wednesday the team was not trading DeRosa, but another one close to the situation said the versatile infielder could be moved in order to get what they want.

Bruce says the Twins are serious about DeRo.

Go all the way to the bottom where a reader responded to the Blog...it's HOOPS....

Where's he been lately?

Hoops left the board after a member questioned his integrity or something like that.

We should start a "bring hoops back petition" and whatever happened to Mark Peel?

I hate that I can't pull myself away from NSBB right now. There hasn't really been anything new lately, but I still sit here holding out hope that the trade goes down soon.

I know I am doing the exact same thing :banghead: , it's only around 4 in Vegas so it's possible some new stuff starts rolling in soon as GM's start gong to dinner/out and I would think we have an idea where we stand on Peavy sometime tonight/late tomorrow morning IMO.

4pm is usually when people start thinking about getting out of bed and going down for some breakfast.

ESPN's Buster Olney said the Yankees checked back in on Jake Peavy, but that talks went nowhere.

Agent Barry Axelrod said last month than a CC Sabathia addition might make the Yankees a more attractive destination for Peavy. However, it appears as though Peavy is still only willing to consider a select number of NL teams.

Plain and simple, I don't see Peavy accept a trade to the AL, and I doubt the Yanks are prepared to rewoork Peavy's deal to make it happen. Nothing here, between the Yanks and Peavy.

I could be wrong, but I think it was over a spat with Meph. He was way too sensitive.

Barry Axelrod is on Chicago Tribune Live

Got a link to that? or can you summarize?

He really didn't say anything big. It might be up on csnchicago.com soon.

On XM at the winter meetings while talking to Fredie Gonzalez he said the Peavy deal was done. This was right around 6:30PM CST

They went straight to Towers and just said that it is not a done deal at this time. It is likely to be done at the meetings but is not finished yet.

On Cubs.com they are saying the Pods will take Marquis but we have to add Vitters.
