Andrew (Charlotte): How high is Josh Vitters ceiling? Should the Cubs even be discussing trading him in a possible Peavy deal?

SportsNation Jim Callis: It's pretty high. He projects to hit for above-average power and average while playing a solid third base. if the Cubs win a World Series with Peavy, they won't care what Vitters becomes. If they don't, they'll regret trading him.

Does his chin hit the rim?

bob, Omaha: Isn't Pie, Vitters, Marshall, Hart, and DeRosa for Peavy a little too much for a player that the Cubs don't really need. Marquis needs to go but trying to trade him now isn't going to get the value they can get if they trade him after the FA sign right?

SportsNation Jim Callis: The last version of the Peavy trade I heard would send Vitters, Hart, Marquis (and money to pay half his salary) and DeRosa to the Padres, with DeRosa then going to the Phillies for J.A. Happ and another pitcher. I understand the demand for Peavy, but I do think he's a little overrated. He won't be pitching in Petco, there are questions about his elbow and he doesn't have a great record (small sample size) in big games. I think the Cubs are going to miss DeRosa's versatility a lot more than they realize.

I do think he's right in the fact that we'll miss DeRo more than we know. The guy can play just about anywhere, and has a pretty good bat. Guys like that are worth their weight in gold. They give you lots of options for trades and FA signings as you can sign just about anyone you want and move the versatile guy to another position.

I want Peavy here, and I think DeRo is worth trading to get him, but how do we replace DeRo? Guys like that aren't as common as one would think.

Wait why isn't he getting traded? Did this stupid thing just go back to square one?

You need to not believe every thing you read as though it's the 100% truth.

I don't.

I heard both Bruce Levine and Peter Gammons talk about a three way deal with DeRosa going to the Phillies today. Both think it's close and could go down today. I'll believe that report over anything Carrie Muskat says for now.

2:33pm: Carrie Muskat's Cubs source says DeRosa will not be traded.

Goodbye Mark.

Ummm ... reading skills?

See the bolded. I'm thoroughly convinced that Carrie Muskat's source is the Cubs clubhouse janitor.

Well, Gammons seems to be wrong about 100% of the time too.

Ok add in to this deal... Lee, Pie, Lilly, and one of our prospects and let's get Chris Young too!

Young sucks.

Not against us.

Cubs pitcher: Hrm... This guy hit a 450-foot homer on a fastball last AB, but looked silly on breaking stuff. What should I throw him? (Looks into the catcher?) The deuce? Nah. Hrmm.... I know! I'll blow him away with a fastball!!!

(gives himself whiplash looking at the monster HR onto Waveland)
