  1. Got the Congratulations email but it confuses me... The email says: Aren't all of those games almost guarenteed to not be at Wrigley? I understand the odds (of at least that first game) were better when the email was actually sent, but logistically, the games they'll be selling tickets for on Monday . . . will they actually be these three games or not?
  2. I believe this guy has been quoted on here before...
  3. I agree. It looks like a Fourth of July display. After just watching the Glenallen homer, I spent a moment thinking this was reliving the lively shoe debate between Chip and Stoney.
  4. Those on the board that so closely follow the minors and player development: is the "full year" at each level strategy actually a good one (or in this case, is it even honest)? Or is promoting as they seem ready more common/effective?
  5. Your run-on sentence makes it sound like Dawson is your dad :) /English teacher, who likes to inject "Grammar does matter" into everyday conversation.
  6. Better to be young and bad than old and bad... Lopez has played parts of 11 major league seasons, four times racking up ~200 innings. He is certainly bad, but to his credit he has managed to make a career of it. $12 million in estimated career earnings isn't too shabby either. But yes he is bad.
  7. Talking about paint over baseball... gonna be one of those years' game threads. :) edited to add: talking about what people are talking about over baseball ... one of those years too
  8. He is not. Now with the Astros. http://houston.astros.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120111&content_id=26316470&vkey=pr_hou&c_id=hou
  9. #-o sure it's dumb, but I do like the excitement level -- in late October, for a team that lost 91 games and has been a disappointment for 3 or 8 or 100 years, depending on how you define it.
  10. It all feels like so long ago, but I don't think I ever would have supported a trade for Prior.

  12. Well now they say Aramis has declined it. Would it still "count" as being an all-star this year, or does his declining negate that? Not that counting it means much -- you'd think there'd be a financial incentive to being named an allstar, not that it would represent too much to most of these guys.
  13. lol kilograms
  14. Not really, he was a product of Rothschild. Since Larry is no longer here he's now going back to what he was without Larry, Its not like he just forgot everything Larry taught him. I tend to think that coaches at this level are predominately responsible for making sure player's stick to their mechanics, are well prepared physically for their games, and mentally for the competition -- all things that would require his presence every day. I also believe that coaches are a relatively small factor in players' successes and failures at this level, but anyway... If good mechanics = more success than your reasoning is flawed and a coach can have quite an impact. Only if the difference between Larry's mechanics coaching and Mark Riggans' mechanics coaching is particularly large -- which I wouldn't assume it is, which is really my point about the impact of coaches I guess.

  16. Gotta be careful criticizing a guy for comments like these -- especially "don't whine to the media about it." I doubt we would have heard anything from Mike Quade if a reporter didn't directly ask him about it. Maybe that wasn't the case here, but I often see players'/coaches' comments in headlines . . . when they're really just answering a question. The headline and subsequent story implies that something is a big deal, whether it is or not. Regardless, I agree that his opinion about these unwritten rules is taking them a little too seriously.
  17. Wouldn't more spots in line be a help. the way I understand it, not really. after all his "waiting room guys" turn into "line guys", the only guy that matters is whichever is furthest along.
  18. where is this "virtual waiting room" for ordering tickets on cubs.com? edit: nevermind, guess i'm "in" it now
  19. It seems those are normally announced as such, but yeah, maybe he technically is being given a shot to win a spot out of ST, but retiring as a Cardinal is the unspoken plan.
  20. The reaction in this thread has been almost entirely positive for the trade.
  21. No names have been exchanged? It's been a month of "so if we were to trade Garza, what would you be willing to give up?" "Well before I answer that, let me ask you this. Say we want Graza, what would it take?" :-)
  22. If I knew it was gonna be a 1 year deal with no money released, I woulda been supporting the deal long ago!
  23. Not a stupid fan thing at all. I will never forget seeing him at a hotel. I started to approach him for an autograph then saw he had coffee in one hand and a paper in the other so I stopped and started to turn around. He called me back and asked if I was wanting an autograph. I said yes, but...and he said no, come over here and hold my coffee (I still talk about holding Ron Santo's coffee :D ). He said he always had time for a Cub's fan. Will never forget that moment. awesome story, thanks :)
