  1. I haven't followed this conversation too closely, to be honest. But I think a 2+ year deal is pretty good for a manager getting his first shot in the majors. He doesn't need to worry about this or next year, and the team gets rewarded with a third year if their risk (or, the supposed risk, of an "unseasoned" big-name manager).
  2. Well, he's 1 for 1, as Fredi returns to Atlanta. That was the easy one though.
  3. It does seem to add credence to the theory that Quade will be managing the team next season. I'm not sure about this logic. I recall reports about Larry's option (though I don't recall the source) stated that this was merely for him to show his intention, and that even if he exercised the option there was still a decent possibility of him not being brought back for next year, due to a manager's preference. I'm thinking Quade's the guy, too, but unless Larry has insider information (and maybe he does), this doesn't really reflect that.
  4. Regardless of one's opinion on Brenly, the bolded is hard to disagree with. I for one really liked him as a color guy. Though I have very very low standards for what a good announcer is.
  5. We can only hope Quade has a knack for making the right decision for the wrong reason. (<-- based on the assumption that most peoples' comments are more about Quade's managerial style and less about the tangible results of the decision).
  6. makes me more sad about Mark Prior than Darryl Kile /insensitive comment At least Cardinals fans don't still have to see Daryl Kile and be reminded of what happened A Kile comeback would be about the only more unlikely comeback than one from Mark Prior.
  7. AH..No Sammy listed. So anyone who says he 'walked out of the game' is incorrect. Case closed. He didn't play therefore he didn't walk out? He also didn't appear as a pinch hitter, which (however unlikely anyway) would not have been possible due to when he left. I could hardly care less about the actual issue, but some of the argumentation here is a little strange.

  9. Wow, Bob Sheppard and Steinbrenner go back-to-back. RIP for them both.
  10. Picked Nebraska, it seems. http://huskerextra.com/articles/2010/06/19/football/doc4c1d6f681b33a152199699.txt
  11. I do sort of think that multiple errors every game is kind of a downer. Even though he had three errors in a game, it was his only multiple-error game, FWIW.
  12. I love the concept, but my bandwidth here on campus just isn't working for it. Hopefully when I move back home, I'll have better luck (same for the Cubs offense).
  13. Part of me thinks Maddux's streak of 51 innings without a walk is just as impressive.
  14. We're 10-10 with Lee and Ramirez hitting .214 and .145 -- granted, Lee's OBP is .360. The superb starting pitching has really picked the team up. If those two can get going, all the better. :)
  15. I'm not sure where you're getting those numbers but they're wrong. Could you be more helpful? I just checked BR.com, which was not updated from last night yet, and cubs.com, which did match what SCCF posted (except a single point of BA; probably a rounding issue).
  16. translation, please at pound money at pound percent at YELLING
  17. It would be 72 RS 62 RA if you also removed our best game (today). Still pretty good, of course, just evening it out.
  18. Dang, good point. Pretty impressive :) Gotta remember, though. We scored 4 runs this inning . . . Milwaukee will only need 1 run for their comeback (if this inning ends as is)
  19. We're really oppressing Hawkins today, huh?
  20. Bases loaded again on Rammy walk. Pay up, Walgreens!!!
  21. Your criticisms are based on 2 chance situations. By equal luck (ignoring the fact that it's the Pirates), the lineup could have just as easily created situations that made the manager look brilliant. It's luck, largely, as far as whether it pays off or not. Really the only tangible benefit I see is that the #8 guy gets more ABs . . . so I agree with you, but not for the same reasons maybe.
  22. It absolutely shouldn't matter, from a fan's perspective, of course. But now I can't help wonder about it, as well. Strange. :)
  23. I'll never forgive him for getting hurt that one time by jumping as he caught a fly ball, like he's done without a problem for years. We're all being sarcastic, right? right??
