Lol, does no one get any of these jokes?

Apparantly not.

Maybe it's because no one is typing in green.

if the jokes are so corny and flat-out dumb that you have to develop a way to telegraph them, maybe that should serve as some type of indication just not to make them in the first place

The agent for Jake Peavy, Barry Axelrod, has left the winter meetings, with no word of a deal. The expectation continues to be, however, that there will be a deal with the Cubs.

Per Buster Olney

If this is true it can either be there is no deal done during the meeting or the deal is done and they will announce it soon or tomorrow.

Maybe he just left for lunch or something.

His agent isn't really needed for anything since we know he will waive his no trade already...

And we already know that it will be after Thrusday, so...

BTW, for some reason I just love the last name Axelrod. There are 3 Axelrods that I know of, Peavy's agent, Obama's campaign manager and the guy that Antonio Davis jumped into the stands to attack a couple of years ago.

Just thought I should mention that.

Ron Artest you mean. Axelrod was the one who threw the cup at him I believe.

I wouldn't say that. There are some complications that would need to be talked about if an agent's player is traded. I doubt its as simple as saying " He said he's good with being traded to the cubs so just do it if you can, if you need me give me a call." So yeah, i would either take it as the deal is done or the trade has been tabled for later. Also he checked out, not left for lunch.

He can't leave, how else is Towers going to get back to San Diego?

First awesome joke of the thread.

I had a good one 20 or 30 pages ago.

I'd be happy to go pick him up so that I can spend 4 1/2 hours debating the strengths of Jason Marquis.

No, a year later there was an incident where a fan was bothering Davis' wife and he went into the crowd at the UC to confront him.

Hmmm...actually it turns out that this Axelrod is actually Obama's campaign manager's son:

On January 18, 2006, Davis was ejected from a Knicks-Bulls game for going into the stands and confronting a fan he alleges was intoxicated and abusive. He said he was concerned about his wife, whom he thought he had seen falling back and being touched by the fan. His wife claims that the fan was using inappropriate language around the Davises' child, and that she had asked him to stop, which then prompted harassment from the fan. Though public opinion allegedly swung in Davis' favor, the NBA suspended him for five games on January 19. The fan in question, Michael Axelrod, the son of David Axelrod, the 2008 campaign manager for Barack Obama, has stated that he was attacked by Davis' wife, and his lawyer revealed plans to sue for roughly a million dollars and a public apology by the Davises.

Still, fax machines take care of that stuff in a second. I'm sure all of the trades that come pouring in at the last second of the trading deadline don't require physically meeting with their agents, since some of those deals come to fruition in like 5 minutes.

Who cares about the NBA and some dude named Axelrod. What we need right now is an update on the lowdown on Philly Billy Werndl.

What's to debate? best pinch-runner in the league. He would be so lucky to only pay $9.8

True i see your point in that. There is an article on Mlbtraderumors.com saying that Peavy might be attracted more to the yankees now that they have CC. According to the article Axelrod said peavy might be interested in the yankees if they got CC. I wonder how long it will take before a NY post or new york writer posts an article saying that Peavy is considering the yankees or that the yankees are making a push for peavy. Its annoying but NY fans act like their teams are the only ones in the planet.

Probably not that long until something along those lines is reported, and that is just posturing by his agent to help Towers to get more/maybe make the Cubs guarantee his option in the 5th year and give him a full NTC.
