  1. i posted above a quote from Lynch (a Boston reporter) saying the red sox might ask for compensation for allowing the cubs just to talk to theo. the quote that he posted from sosh is based on the Lynch report and says that Lynch speculated that theo wouldn't accept the interview under those circumstances (the cubs paying compensation just to talk with him) if theo thought that he was getting pushed out regardless. this also has led to much spec on sosh about the cubs going for a handshake arrangement with theo, having an interim gm type for the next year and picking up theo after his contract expires. don't see Ricketts going that way myself, though.
  2. my bet would be ricketts has friedman in his sights. boston is full of drama queens and the organization leaks like a sieve when everyone tries to backstab each other through the media, so we'll be hearing a lot more spec and news out of boston.
  3. send him over some red wine
  4. talk about boston demanding compensation just for granting permission to talk to theo. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2011/10/on_the_cubs_and.html
  5. larussa got fined for whining about the strike zone.
  6. ricketts is not going to let crane kenney or his title stand in the way of hiring a theo epstein.
  7. Rogers (yep) latest spec is up http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-1004-cubs-gm--20111004,0,2294765.story John Coppolela. He's kind of a scouting/saber mixture guy who Fangraphs mentioned early on as an under the radar good hiring for the Cubs job (along with names like Hahn, Ng, and others). He's been mentioned a few times on this board. Another thing about him (and Ng really) is that he came through the Yankee FO. lots on Coppolella there: most of all I'm relieved at the names being thrown around -- people who seem competent and able to put a coherent system into place.
  8. Rosenthal (basically a wishy-washy repeat of the above) Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal Rival GM says when #RedSox are in moment of crisis, "all bets are off." Meaning: Maybe Sox will allow Epstein to interview with #Cubs. #MLB 11 hours ago Favorite Retweet Reply
  9. Gammons yesterday on twitter pgammo Peter Gammons Is Epstein interested in Cubs? Sure. What Henry does to keep him @ co-CEO, makes Cherington GM and go forward remains to be seen. https://twitter.com/#!/pgammo
  10. thank you, Ryan Howard!
  11. they said Braun has transformed himself into a 'great defensive left fielder.'
  12. Game ended and viewers were unceremoniously dumped into a King of Queens episode. Also seemed a fitting ending to the season.
  13. I took it as ripping Quade because he also talked about how Castro's mental lapses seem to happen over and over without anyone mentioning it to him (camera also lingered on Aramis and Pena). Valentine was all over how he would handle Castro differently. Valentine's opening campaign round 2 for Cubs manager?
  14. rosenbloom = congenitally stupid
  15. that was my 1000th post!
  16. http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2010/0213/oly_g_ohno13_576.jpg he's holding up six fingers for six medals
  17. So does Soriano. will fontenot continue the streak of suck?
  18. he looks godawful at the plate. maybe they should hire a friend for him.
  19. you can watch his speech here http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090717&content_id=5905844&vkey=news_atl&fext=.jsp&c_id=atl doesn't seem like he spent a lot of time preparing either number retirement speech.
