How the hell will the Brewers get CC without giving up LaPorta?

An ESPN SportsNation chat dude said they could trade Prince for CC.

Why would the Indians need Prince?

Their offense sucks and Hafner may be toast.

I think the question is, would the Indians rather have Prince knowing they will have to pay him. They could tell the Brewers no and say they want Laporta. Being Sheets will leave, they have the money for Prince, I just don't know if they want to pay him.

I don't see the Brewers giving up the farm for a 3 month rental.

Steve Phillips weighs in:

Mike (Cleveland): Bottom line, where do you predict CC ends up?

SportsNation Steve Phillips: (1:23 PM ET ) I think eh ends up either with the Cubs of Phillies when it is all said and done. I expect the NL to be the most agressive in ursuit. The Red Sox, White Sox, and Angels do not need him and I cannot imagine the Rays giving up a lot of young players even if they see him as a difference maker.

CC in Philly would be pretty scary. That said I have no clue about the Phillies system and what they have to give up.

I know it's Steve Philips giving us the information but why wouldn't the White Sox need Sabathia? If they think they can rely on Vazquez, Contreras, Danks and Floyd to get them into the playoffs, they are sorely mistaken.

You think Cleveland is going to trade CC within the division? I don't.

Buster Olney was suppose to have something about this on Sports Center, but I turned the TV off after PTI. Did anybody see that? I doubt he said anything new, but I thought I'd check.

Nothing new. Said that to get Sabathia, you need motivation and prospects. the cubs have the motivation, but the mysterious "baseball people" dont think that they have the prospects.

IDC what Olney says, if Hendry wants CC Sabathia, he will get him. I remember when the Cubs were not a match for the Red Sox and Nomar Garciaparra, because Boston either want a package around Andy Sisco, or Carlos Zambrano straight up, or a package that involved Matt Clement. And yet, the Cubs found a way---a complicated way---to get Nomar to Chicago. Seeing as Cleveland hasn't exactly put CC on the market, you can't really list the favorites, until he is available.

I am proceeding under the assumption that Sabathia won't be available - even if the Indians consider themselves out of it - *until* it is made clear that he will reject a contract from them in the offseason, or they are not going to offer him a sign-able deal. I may have missed that coming out definitively, but until I hear it, I'm assuming they'll figure they can resign him and just take the picks if they can't.

I think the fact that the Sox have one of the worst farm systems in baseball would hinder any potential trade.

Their system is mediocre. They have a few intriguing pitching prospects, but no outright studs. Hitting-wise, there's not a whole lot there.

Molony talked to some "industry types" about C.C. Sabathia, and those guys suggested the Cubs and Angels could be the frontrunners.

and further down...................

Angels GM Tony Reagins has no intention of breaking from Bill Stoneman's model. Reagins does not intend to trade young players in a midseason blockbuster. Plunkett makes a good point in that the Halos would be worse off if they'd pulled the trigger on the rumored Miguel Cabrera deal.

The Angels expect to fix their offensive woes with in-house options. The team ranks 12th of 14 in the league in OBP and 9th in SLG. Garret Anderson, Gary Matthews Jr., Erick Aybar, and Jeff Mathis has been easy outs this year. It might make sense to start working in Juan Rivera and Reggie Willits regularly.

I also read in another article, not sure where, that the Brewers are not really players in the C.C. sweepstakes. However, as we all know, things change. I do find this encouraging.

I like Adrian Cardenas quite a bit. Not much else to like as far as the hitters go.

Be it C.C. Sabathia , Rich Harden or AJ Burnett I hope Hendry pulls trigger soon, if it waits until the trading deadline we'll have to endure at least four more Marquis starts. I'm assuming of course, that upon a deal for a SP, Marquis is going to be pulled from rotation - its the obvious and smart move.

I don't think Hendry can pull the trigger soon. As many people point out, when it comes to trades, it takes two to tango. There may not be any pitcher we'd be happy with that he could pull the trigger now on, and if there is, it's probably in the Randy Wold caliber and not the Sabathia, Harden, Burnett group.

If we're going to get Sabathia, it's going to come down to the deadline as Cleveland decides if they are in or out and what's the best possible deal they can get.

Don't know how reliable Al from BCB is, but I have seen him post some information that turned out to be true in the past. Anyways this is what he says:

What I will say is that today, I heard more about the Cubs' possible pursuit of C. C. Sabathia. I can't go into too many details, but let's say that I do know that Jim Hendry IS looking into this, that it's more than just our wishful thinking, and that it could happen sooner rather than later with the Indians having fallen into last place. We already know that Sam Zell has green-lighted Crane Kenney and Hendry to do whatever they think they have to in order to win this year.

No joke, I would much rather be active early rather than later. I don't want to wait till the last hour of the deadline like we did with Nomar.

Gallagher, Veal, Patterson, Wellington Castilo, Colvin should get it done IMO. We'll see though. I don't see who the Indians turn that down if its proposed by the cubs. Things the next 2 weeks will be very interesting. I can see a deal made any day now.
