So why does nobody want to accept the fact that the best thing for Pie could be a few weeks in Iowa?

That's not a fact.

Its as much as a fact as the Felix Pie would be great given the chance to play full time arguement. More of a speculation.

It's much less of a fact than the fact that Pie has been better than Reed Johnson offensively for the last four weeks, and is light-years ahead defensively.

Felix has shown potential, e.g. the Mets HR. I don't think sending him down is going to do him any better than staying in the majors.

Also, there really is no one for them to bring up that would be much more use to the team right now than Pie is.

A 13th reliever? No thanks.

Murton? Not very effective as a pinch hitter.

Fuld? Worse numbers in AAA than Pie has in the majors.

Andruw Jones?

Griffey?

Not even close, IMO.

You mean Edmonds isn't close to Jones and Griffey, right? Jones is easily one of the best CF ever. Edmonds was a great fielder, but not better than Andruw.

Jones isn't even in the Top 15 of all-time CF. He couldn't carry the jock of players like Mays, Mantle, Cobb and Snider.

Can't say I've seen any of those guys personally to compare them to defensively. Are there any annually adjusted defensive metrics to compare those guys? Heck, are there even any good defensive metrics without adjusting for the year? Anyone here ever see all of those guys play?

Sorry if this is posted somewhere else, but I heard on the Score this morning from Bruce Levine that the Cubs might be interested in acquiring Jim Edmonds since he was cut this week. "He would be the left handed bat the Cubs were looking for."

Are you kidding me? Why would we wanna become slower, older, and worse offensively and defensively. Pie is much better than Edmonds is right now at this point in his career.

Edmonds would be the first Cub I would actively boo since Todd Hundley

Wow. Not even booing LaTroy, but going after Edmonds right away. I enjoy the hatred.

Here we go...

New face coming?

Could the Cubs be interested in signing center fielder Jim Edmonds, just released by the Padres after hitting .178 and struggling in the field? They are exploring the possibility, according to some in the know.

Manager Lou Piniella long has desired another left-handed bat to go with Kosuke Fukudome. Felix Pie has been unreliable. Signing Edmonds could allow the Cubs to send Pie to Triple-A Iowa for steady work.

Asked about the possibility of a left-handed bat being added, Piniella said, "We'll just have to see what happens."

Edmonds loves to hit at wrigley and might relish the chance to stick it to La Russa. That being said I would rather have Pie playing center anyday of the week or if we where going scrap heap shopping I would prefer Lofton.

I do think playing defense in Wrigley would help him (Edmonds) more than the spacious Petco. That being said, I wouldn't want to try to catch his lightning in a bottle because I think his time is past, he seems to have lost a lot of bat speed along with defense.

I would cheer for him to strike out every AB. I thought for sure I would NEVER put one individual player above the team, but in this instance, I can't imagine ever wanting to cheer for that hack.

If Reed is going to get a bulk of the starts vs RHP over Pie, then I would def prefer Edmonds filling that role. Of course, I would want Pie doing that, but it doesn't seem like that is what the team wants in the short term.

I have no reason to boo Edmonds.

There is a reason Edmonds was cut by the Padres. He sucks. He was horrible defensively and his bat speed has definitely fallen off.

Please NO.

I wonder what the Padres will do with all the half-shirts he left around the locker room.

Good question. I don't think there's enough space in the Cubs clubhouse for all of them.

In all seriousness seeing Jimmy in a Cubs uniform would be depressing.

I personally don't think he would sign with the Cubs. Remember all his complaining about the cold showers and crappy conditions at Wrigley. And he certainly hasn't forgotten a lot of the stuff people have screamed at him over the years from the bleachers. He knows he would not be welcome, and I don't think her personally likes the Cubs of their fans that much.

IMO, he would probably take a minor league deal with another team over a major league deal with us.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the Cubs "are exploring the possibility" of signing Jim Edmonds.

Let go by the Padres last week, Edmonds' arrival would send Felix Pie back to Triple-A. He batted .178/.265/.233 in 26 games with the Padres, whereas Pie is hitting .222/.286/.286 through 29 games, and Edmonds is 15 years older.

I just may puke.

If this actually happens, I'm not sure whom I would shoot first... Lou, Hendry, or myself.

Hopefully he wouldn't cause a stir in the clubhouse trying to grab someone's crotch.
