Levine just said that he'd be very surprised if the Cubs don't sign Edmonds. He's almost sounding like this is a done deal as he said the Cubs would move Fukudome up to 2nd in the order where Edmonds would bat 5th. And of course, Pie would be demoted to Iowa.

Shoot me now, please.

If this is true, then that is an awful decision and to make things worse, they're going to bat Edmonds ahead of Soto? I seriously hate this team. I'm sorry Felix. You don't deserve this.

Yes, another crappy veteran who can take playing time from our younger, promising players. Same crap, different year.

Now that this really might be a reality, I really honestly still think that I will boo him every AB. I want him to fail.

The sad thing is that if Edmonds manages the numbers he did against righties last year, there's no way he would lose the job.

.268/.336/.419 would probably be just not bad enough to warrant benching/releasing a veteran like Edmonds, in Lou's mind.

We'd have to hope for him to continue what he was doing in SD if we wanted this to end quickly.

Fred McGriff redux

Not all that close at all. McGriff was having one of the best seasons of his career when we got him... Yea, it was an old guy blocking Hee Seop, but that's where the comparison ends, especially since guys like Ron Coomer and Matt Stairs were getting the playing time at 1B. McGriff coming was a welcome change.

Signing Edmonds is a TERRIBLE move. There is no excuse for this kind of stupidity but we always seem to see the same BS with this organization.

It doesn't take much to figure out why we haven't won a World Series in 100 years.

The sad thing is, he's going to make some routine play look ridiculously hard (but in a pretty way) and my dad (he's 77) is gonna think he's good.

My dad is too old to argue with over such things.

After reading Bruce's blog, I have to say I absolutely LOVE that the only reason the Cubs might not do it is how he affects clubhouse chemistry. No worries about the fact that he's terrible. It's not even like Edmonds was good last year!!

Being a San Diegan, I find myself watching Padres games more often than I really prefer. He was horrific in the field this year. I tried not to watch him bat too much, mainly because I really do not like Edmonds, but what little I did see, he offered nothing that impressed me.

See, that chemistry stuff does come in handy once in awhile. But my guess is they'll take a chance on him.

jesus. this was stupid when i thought it was just writer speculation. if they are seriously considering this, they are dumber than i thought, and that's saying something.

Bruce, if you're still around, I don't suppose you'd have any inkling as to whether Edmonds would want to come here would ya?

I'm hearing he'd LOVE to come here and maybe try to stick it to the Cardinals.

I'm not sure there is one player in baseball that wouldn't want to play for the Cubs. As much as I'm against the signing of Edmonds, sticking it to the Cards sounds good to me. :)

Hasn't he already "stuck it" to most of the Cardinals?
