Here is this little gem from Sullivan at CS.com

Of course, Hendry is probably going to be ripped if he signs Edmonds, but that has never deterred him from making a move he thinks will help the team.

 Classic.

This would probably be the most universally hated move since the Marquis signing. Listen to the screaming idiots Jim.

It might not happen quite as fast as the Reed Johnson deal at the end of spring training, but the Cubs appear poised to sign veteran center fielder Jim Edmonds soon after he clears waivers Wednesday.

This team is the best Cubs team of my lifetime, and they are making it so freaking hard to root for them.

Edmonds would be the first Cub I would actively boo since Todd Hundley

oh i actively booed latroy, but i'd boo the hell out of jim edmonds. partly because i hate him from his days with the cards, and partly because he's now a terrible player who has no business playing for a team that's contending for a division.

Honestly, if Edmonds does well, I see no reason to boo the guy.

Either way, most others will boo him and he'll probably get pissed at the fans soon enough.

Does anyone remember John Starks' tenure with the Bulls? That might be the only situation worse than this. Starks almost refused to play for the hated Bulls, and IIRC the Bulls fans booed the hell out of Starks during his only home game here.

I think this team is a smidge better.

You're all gonna be really pissed when we actually trade Jake Fox for him (and a sack with a $ on it) cause Hendry's afraid somebody else will trade for him (and a sack with a $ on it) before he clears waivers.

Oh man, is this for real? It's got to be some cruel joke. Eff Jim Edmonds, I wouldn't want him if he were a good player.

he won't do well. he's washed up.

to sum up, this is how the cubs think:

Felix Pie, 70 PAs, 222/286/286/573 - can't hack it against major league pitching

Jim Edmonds, 103 PAs, 178/265/233/498 - still has something left in the tank

competent organizations do not operate in this manner.

there is not a ballplayer in the history of the universe that i hate more than jim edmonds.

this makes me want to kill myself.

Maybe they should force him to use the visiting clubhouse so he would have to suffer through not having any hot water. Then would you be happy? How about if Cubs fans booed him every time he took the field or batted and pockets of fans really did wear big fake eyelashes or something offensive like that with an edmonds jersey on.

Why not sign Lofton instead if they're going to sign a LH hitting outfielder? He's so much better than Edmonds.

I have a hard time saying that given how good that starting pitching should've been (had it not been for the injuries) and how good it actually was getting later in the season.

I do far prefer this team's offensive approach, however.

Oh how the roided have fallen

Or it could just be the fact that he's, you know, in his late 30's.

And had several concussions. I've been told they do wonders for the hand/eye coordination. I use to make fun of him, but secretly I've always admired his skills on the baseball field. He's probably the best defensive CF in the last 25 years.

Are you kidding me??????!!!! He is without question the most overrated defensive CF probably to ever play the game. He made his entire career out of making routine flay balls look like amazing catches. Yeah, he was good at making the diving catch, but if you judge the ball correctly off the bat and take the correct line on it (like Andrew Jones) you have to dive a lot less often.

Don't let your biases cloud your judgment.

He's not. He's completely accurate in saying Edmonds made a whole lot of more difficult than average catches look like you had to be a superhero to make them. However, he was in fact a very good CF, but not even close to the best of the last 25 years.

Griffey

Jones

Hunter

Puckett

Lofton

Just to name a few that were as good or better than him on an every day basis.

Lofton, is a terrible OF.

And this is different from Edmonds how?

What a seriously bad idea. Edmonds is old and washed-up. Please, someone else claim him and save us the agony. Ricciardi, I'm looking at you.

I hope he doesn't come here. I hope he goes somewhere else, stays healthy, and puts up an .850 OPS, just so I can see people complain that Hendry didn't get him. Hilarious.

Only this team would follow up a three-game sweep of the best team in the majors and a solid performance today with a bonehead move like this.

I need a case of beer.

We have scored more runs than anyone else in the league this year. Instead of letting our young, high upside CF get the playing time he really needs while we're scoring (while upgrading defensively anyway), we're going to sign an aging guy everyone hates. I really hope all the media reports are pure speculation and Hendry decides its not worth it. I've learned to not trust Hendry to make the logical move.

I can't even enjoy a game where we walk a ton and score a bunch of runs.

Bruce, if you're still around, I don't suppose you'd have any inkling as to whether Edmonds would want to come here would ya?

I'm hearing he'd LOVE to come here and maybe try to stick it to the Cardinals.

How tragically ironic, then, that his playing here would probably do more to help the Cardinals than hurt them.
