  1. They'll look at and disregard. You honestly think an arbitration award has ever taken FIP into account? Why wouldn't an arbiter consider advanced metrics? Because the people hearing the cases aren't advanced baseball minds? Incorrect. There is anecdotal evidence of the contrary with Ross Ohlendorf and the Pirates last year. Just in any case, evidence can be used to convince arbitrators of a players value. They may not be advanced baseball minds, but that doesn't mean they are stupid/stubborn. http://www.aolnews.com/2011/02/09/ross-ohlendorf-beats-pirates-in-arbitration/
  2. Paul Hoynes says that the Indians gave up two prospects; 1 upper level, and 1 lower level. He also says that it is 1 pitcher and 1 position player.
  3. Man, looking at Angelos last seven drafts, it's amazing how few offensive linemen he's taken. In 2002, he took Columbo in the 1st and Metcalf in the 3d round. In 2003, he took Bryan Anderson in the 7th round. In 2004 and 2005, he took no offensive linemen. In 2006, he took Tyler Reed in the 6th. In 2007, he took Beekman in the 4th and Grant in the 7th. In 2008, he took Chris Williams in the 1st, and a couple of no names in the 7th. Over 7 years, that's a grand total of 9 offensive lineman. That's two first rounders, two guys between rounds 3 and 5, and the rest are 6th and 7th rounders. Both of his first rounders started their careers with injury problems. The other two he took in the middle of the draft (3d through 5th rounds) haven't been super starts but have been more than justified their picks. In the 6th or 7th rounds, he hasn't done well on offense or defense (but then again, what GM is good at landing picks in those rounds?), with the lone notable pick being Chris Harris in the 6th in 2005. I still think that there's on reason to be concerned about 2010 and beyond for the line...there's plenty of time to fix it, and like it was mentioned earlier, this is a great year to draft offensive linemen. Very few offensive lineman. I remember reading somewhere that since JA took over we have drafted the fewest amount of OL of any team.
  4. http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/07/07/milton-bradley-what-have-i-done-now/?ref=sports He was very proud of making the all star team as evident by this article he wrote. Will you care if next spring training he wears a 2009 All Star shirt? I doubt it. I can see being disappointed in MB for being a bit of an ass about signing an autograph, but for wearing a 2008 all star shirt - come on now thats just silly.
  5. Oh very nice, I didn't think Berrian was going to give them a 3rd I figured he would net a 4th this is very good news - Lets hope we can pick up a contributor with this pick.
  6. You must not watch much football then.
  7. Yes, John St. Clair. To be fair, he won't put up the kind of performance that Tait would give but hes probably what we are going to have to settle with.
  8. Because we got burned on the Peavy deal and traded DeRosa to free up money before that was set in stone. I have no hope that this is true, but what if we were interested in Hudson to play SS and move Theriot to platoon with Fontenot? That would make me very happy. And I don't dislike Theriot that much. How's Hudson's defense at SS? He's never played there. However, his range at 2B is phenomenal, and his arm can't be worse than Theriot's. It'd be a big risk for Lou to take - and I don't think he will - but I think that'd be a solid upgrade. That'd leave us with literally no power on the bench, however. We already have no power on the bench. Very true. We do have an open spot on the bench, however. As of now, we could fill that spot with a power hitter (Rich Aurilia, Nomar). If we sign Hudson, though, that open spot goes away and leaves us with no power whatsoever. Rich Aurilia just signed a minor league deal with the Giants. At least I think thats what I saw on ESPN about an hour ago.
  9. I really like the improvements I am seeing from Tyrus Thomas finally. Good stretch of games the last few weeks. The Bulls are a mess right now from the front office to the roster, but its good to see them playing well again. This 7 game road trip could have been the end of the season. We all know they are playing for 2010, but its nice to see them not pack it in when things really got tough a week ago.
  10. Only if Isiah Thomas was running the Blazers, sadly. Do Vinny and Pax even make it through the season?
  11. Man that outfield really lacks power, though. They may end up with less than 30 HR's total between the 3. How many dingers did the Rays' OF hit last year? They were considered a fairly successful OF right? Sure, they could be successful. Still doesn't take away from the fact that they really lack power.
  12. Man that outfield really lacks power, though. They may end up with less than 30 HR's total between the 3.
  13. Agreed. He's the best WR in the league, and finally getting the attention he deserves.
  14. They made a few movies about the undone dead, you might wanna check those out. They sound up your alley. Who are you, IMB in disguise? It's well documented that I can't spell, and I type fast, so I am prone to misspelling words...Geez... You should give Firefox a try. It has a built in spell checker !! Last I checked, dead was spelled right.
  15. I think they are trying to sign every player in MLB. The title and subject of one of my favorite Onion articles of all time... Yankees Ensure 2003 Pennant by Signing Every Player in Baseball - NEW YORK—With a week to go before pitchers and catchers report for spring training, the New York Yankees shored up their pitching, hitting, and defense Monday by signing every player in professional baseball. "It's an honor to be part of this team," said catcher Benito Santiago, picked up from the San Francisco Giants as insurance in case catchers Jorge Posada, Ivan Rodriguez, and Mike Piazza all go down with injuries. "It's a surprise, certainly, but I'd be crazy to turn down the opportunity to play on what is, by default, the greatest team in baseball." The mass signing, extravagant even by Yankees standards, caused the Bronx Bombers' payroll to skyrocket from a former league high of $149 million to $5.6 billion." http://www.theonion.com/content/node/27656
  16. Just about as necessary as this comment. Pretty poor comparison I'd say. I'm not a Jim Hendry fan but I don't understand why we have to give him crap for signing a bench player. I really don't care if you like Jim, or think its a good signing. Its the fact that your bringing it up in a thread about Garrett Anderson that makes it completely unnecessary. So that, in fact, does make it a solid comparison.
  17. Just about as necessary as this comment.
  18. No doubt this board is full of smartasses and wanna be GM know-it-alls. It does get old. If only there was some place you could be a self-important dictator who quelled any inflammatory speech. Nevermind. LOL!
  19. Thats pretty much how it has been since Jordan retired the 2nd time. The Atlanta Hawks were 37-45 last season.
  20. Hopefully he doesn't hold a 36 year grudge like Milt Pappas..holy hell does Milt not like Bruce Froehming.
  21. Missouri fans LOVE to say Mcgee is a better QB than Williams based off how he played against them last year. I just don't get it, he's not as good as Williams. Juice really came on following the loss at Iowa, and I think he is poised for a big year. Gonna be an interesting game. I like the rivalry, but we need to lose the "neutral" site aspect of it. If your gonna do it, play it on the schools home fields. I can't wait to see how some of the youngsters play in this game. Martez Wilson is such an athletic freak, I can't wait to see what he does at OLB. Vontae begins his campaign to enter the top 15 in the draft next season, and our deepest WR core in recent memory has another year of experience and a couple new comers who will be looking to make immediate impacts. Its finally exciting to be an Illini football fan.
  22. Is there any chance he fetches us a draft pick? If thats the case, why would you DFA him?
  23. Same here. I bet the role we see Edmonds as the rest of the season is as a pinch hitter, he doesn't look to moving too well.
