i told this to matt earlier, but the only way a edmonds signing would make me smile would be if he got beaned in the face and died in his first plate appearance, getting his first and only standing O at wrigley

i'd rest better if mr miles came by to tell us not to worry about this.

I don't know if you noticed, but he's basically come by and done just the opposite of that.

maybe for the cubs to win the world series, we must sell our souls to the devil. and obviously, in baseball terms, selling your soul means having your most hated player join your team.

i've got a good feeling about jim edmonds being a cub.

I have no problem getting Pie back down in the minors for awhile to work on his swing and get some at-bats. He wasn't playing up here anyway, Edmonds either performs or the Cubs cut bait. His defense should be better playing at wrigley instead of Petco. Edmonds has always got on base at good clip throughout his career and hit for power. If not it buys Pie some time in Iowa and buys Hendry some time to continue to tinker with this team. It's a very low risk and I have a feeling Emonds still has something left in the tank and will show that.

I hope he doesn't come here. I hope he goes somewhere else, stays healthy, and puts up an .850 OPS, just so I can see people complain that Hendry didn't get him. Hilarious.

Maybe the worst 1st post ever.

But anyway, there is not one single aspect of this that is in any way a good idea. I may need to make the trip to Chicago sometime soon just so I can boo the crap out of him. This is absolutely terrible.

I've never hated Edmonds, but I don't think he has much left in the tank, so I don't want him near this team. Hopefully he either impresses or bombs out quickly if he comes here though.

There is no way that Hendry should sign Edmonds, but if he does sign him I would like nothing more than for Edmonds to come in and hit .300/.380/.850+ and absolutely tear it up for the rest of the year. Stranger things have been known to happen. Of course I'm also hoping that I win the powerball this week.

Well, Edmonds told his agent:

"Talk to the Cubs before anyone else".

Me thinks he has a very personal reason to stick it to Larussa and the Birds. You have to admit it would be delicious if it happened that way.

I have never liked Edmonds, nor does Z for that matter. Who can forget Z nailing him and telling him to run the bases and not admire the HR he hit off Z?

People are overreacting a little. Not a lot, but just a little.

I hate this move to. It's stupid that Pie has to battle Reed Johnson for playing time vs. righties, it's stupid that he might be sent down.

But given that I fully agree with how stupid it is and am furious at the team for jerking around Pie, IF we aren't going to give him the time he's deserved, I'd rather have Jim Edmonds in there vs. righties than Reed Johnson. Last season, Edmonds posted .268 .336 .419 vs. righties, much better than anything Johnson can be expected to do.

It would cost the Cubs all of 280k.

And playing time for the best CFer in the organization.

Yeah, too bad that CF can't even hit .250 or he would play everyday. I'm suprised though, as of Saturday the Cubs reports were Edmonds was done. They must have dug deeper or Lou just wants him bad enough to take a flier. I don't see how it could hurt.

He sucks. There's nothing more that needs to be said about him.

If the Cubs sign him, it's another reason to put on the laundry list for why Jim Hendry should be fired.

Against righties this season:

Johnson: .253/.310/.333/.643

Pie: .240/.316/.320/.636

Edmonds: .192/.286/.247/.533

Ugh, this is looking more and more likely. Even cubs.com is talking about it and players are commenting on it. From cubs.com-

Despite the offensive surge, the Cubs may be looking for more help. They are reportedly considering veteran Jim Edmonds, 37, who was released Friday by the Padres after hitting .178 in 26 games. He is expected to clear waivers on Wednesday.

"He's been on a lot of winning ballclubs, he's won a championship, he's been a mainstay in the middle of the lineup for a great team for a long time," Chicago's Mark DeRosa said. "I know one thing this team lacks is left-handed bats. You read about that constantly. If he can come and help us out, bring him on."

No, Derosa. That's a bad Derosa!
