Per an update on ESPN1000, this move will only cost the Cubs $284K. Not a huge risk and pretty easy for them to cut ties if Jimmy is truly done.

he either has to die on the field or help us win a world series. in my mind there's no middle ground.

What if he does both?

No because then his legend will live on forever.

if he "helps us" win a world series (depending on what that means) they can put a freaking statue of him in front of Wrigley and rename a street after him. until then, damn him and his half-shirts.

But then the 2008 World Series wouldn't be 2008 Champion Chicago Cubs prevail. It would be Jim Edmonds dies on the field, oh and something happened, I don't know Jim Edmonds died.

I do find it at least partially amusing that there is currently a discussion whether Edmonds dying on the field would take too much focus away from a Cubs World Series win...

I'm going to have to start up a thread in Cubs discussions if this one goes really happens.

The closest parallel I can think of to this would be when the Bulls traded for John Starks.

I'm just glad that I wont be able to watch the game tonight to hear Len and Bob talk about what a wonderful signing it is.

Starks was a Bull?

Yes, for 4 games in 2000. Unless you were purposely blocking it from memory.

It was 4 games. More like not worth wasting a memory on.

Yes he was. That wasn't much of a parallel though. We stunk, so it was almost kind of a "gotcha" against Starks by forcing him to suit up and play in Chicago and watch him get booed mercilessly. That was hilarious.

Edmonds taking time that should go to Pie and sabotaging us while we should be competing for postseason positioning is not funny in the least.

Fair enough, but I think it works as a parallel. Starks was past his prime, hated by the fans, booed constantly when he played, and was quickly moved elsewhere because of it.

This would be a best-case scenario that I could see with Edmonds. Although 4 NBA games is the equivalent to 2 weeks of Cubs games.

Where is Dusty when you need him? He has unreasonable manlove for "proven vets" and isn't getting good production from his CF. I'm amazed he's not flying under the radar trying to recruit him.

Edmonds probably knows the Reds are terrible.
