"He's played in big situations. I think here at Wrigley Field with the crowd and so forth

lol Lou you assume the crowd will be on his side. Boo Cubs fans, boo like you have never booed in your life, I want to hear it down here in FL. I wish I could fly up there and get tickets so I could join in. Jim Edmonds? *sigh* what a horrible day in Cubdom.

Per an update on ESPN1000, this move will only cost the Cubs $284K. Not a huge risk and pretty easy for them to cut ties if Jimmy is truly done.

Can people stop saying this is a low risk move? If he comes in and stinks up the joint, and causes the Cubs to lose games, that sounds pretty high risk if you ask me. Divisions can be decided by 1 or 2 games over the course of 162. Every game is precious.

Honestly, he's not going to suck any more than Felix Pie would or Reed Johnson vs. righthanders would, so I would think that qualifies as "low risk". Jim Edmonds will have very little to do with the Cubs winning or losing games unless Lou foolishly bats him in the first 5 slots in the order.

The problem is, you could get very similar production from Pie while developing him and giving him big league at bats. If the Cubs are getting bad at bats, they might as well come from someone who isn't 38 years old and on the downside of their career.

True, at least this will end the Reed Johnson vs. RHP foolishness.

Hi guys and gals...Im a Cards fan...reading your board for a long time and finally registered, Edmunds driven. Hey Im not an ass...if we dont win the thing I, and a hell of alot Card fans root for the Cubs. Hope to find some good insight here for my habit with books and Im not talking at the library.

Here's what theyre reporting in STL

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/06E9D2A55FF346AF8625744900514047?OpenDocument

Whats funny, is the diehard Cub fan and Card fan doesnt want this to happen....what a great rivalry...you all (in general) gave this guy so much [expletive] about makeup and what not, and now he's there....its crazy...Seriously, JE is a class act, yeah everyone thinks he hotdogs it but we are all jealous because we cant do the same.

IT will be very interesting to see if he can put it together there. Has a low 200 avg in house, but some clutch hits as you know. Thinking the tigher field plays to his age/current ability, so at this point I wouldnt sell him short helping ya defensively. Hell cheer the dramatic plays.

This will be hard for both fan bases, but we both traded Lee Smith and Bruce back and forth and survived.

Have fun all.

Pray that he fails the physical.

Don't just pray. Beg God to save us from this. Sacrifice one of your friends if you believe in that stuff. Anything to save my sanity.

*smacks forehead*

To root against him coming here is one thing, to root against him when he gets here is another. And booing him at Wrigley for no other reason than It's Jim Edmonds, is even worse.

I will not hope any current cub fails, ever. Because I'm a Cub fan and I want the Cubs to win.

I am tempted to sacrifice my best friend. The big dope actually thinks this is a good signing. I thought I knew the guy after 10 years...guess not.

I've always been in the camp that says if you have to accept crappy production out of a position, you may as well get it from someone young that may get better as opposed to someone old who will likely get worse. This is yet another sobering reminder that our GM is, in fact, an idiot whose (limited) success is mostly due to the fact that he has the sixth highest payroll in MLB to buy him out of all his mistakes.

If you're going to try to upgrade CF, then trade for someone that doesn't suck, or move Kosuke to CF and trade for a RF that doesn't suck. What a completely and utterly Cub-like move this is. Well, on the not bright but not quite as soul crushingly dark side, this costs basically nothing, and in the extraordinarily improbable event Edmonds puts up numbers closer to what he did 3 or 4 years ago than what he's put up the last 2, the Cubs will have gotten a good LH CF for basically nothing that we are under no obligation to pay beyond this season. What seems more likely is that he'll suck for two months and the Cubs will overpay in trade for some passable OF, more than likely a RF.

If I were Kosuke, i'd be practicing taking fly balls in CF.. a lot.

DLee is hitting like he's playing in Yankee Stadium with all these warning track flies to right. If he were he'd have a lot of home runs right now.
