  1. Soler to sign deal before tomorrow as per www.mlbtraderumors.com Outfielder Jorge Soler is expected to agree on a four-year deal before tomorrow, an industry source told George A. King III and Mike Puma of the New York Post. Meanwhile, the representative for Soler is calling to ask teams if their bids are final, sources tell Buster Olney of ESPN.com (via Twitter). The Yankees, Cubs, Braves, and Dodgers have been among the most aggressive teams in their pursuit of Soler, according to Olney. The Yankees are said to have bid heavy on Soler while other teams view the Cubs as the favorite, Olney tweets. King III and Puma note that the Yankees don’t have a Plan B if they lose Nick Swisher in free agency and Soler would certainly cost less than chasing Josh Hamilton. Plenty of other teams have been linked to Soler, including the Astros, Pirates, Indians, Red Sox, Phillies, and Blue Jays. The Mets and Marlins, meanwhile, aren't pursuing the outfielder.
  2. I was on a plane with Matt Hughes last week. We talked for a bit. Nice guy! I was on a plane with Nomar earlier this year.
  3. When I played, I wore a cup regardless of what position I played. I'd rather be slightly uncomfortable wearing a cup than taking a shot to the jewels.
  4. In '84, Joe Carter was traded for Sutcliffe. Carter was a top prospect. The Palmeiro trade was more recent that that, though.
  5. Why? The guy can rake. He's 36, is expensive, awful on defense, and I wouldn't say an .837 OPS for a corner outfielder is "raking". And yet many around here want Hermida, who put up less than .800 OPS in 2008.
  6. and a first round pick What percentage of first rounds picks are actually "productive" major league players? If it's not very high, then who cares about losing the first round pick, especially if the guy you are signing is already a "productive" major league player?
  7. Post of the year! On Jan 11th? You, my friend, must witness the game threads at the very least :) You're right, it's early! I should have said post of the year (so far).
  8. Here is the link to the download page. http://cms.ootpdevelopments.com/index.php?page=downloads It lets you play one year in the demo mode. Fifth link down on the page. Buy the game and continue from there in your universe. http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/board/forumdisplay.php?f=3683 Ask questions in the forums, there is a solid core of folks there who can answer just about any question you have about the game. Reading is a skill that I apparently don't have, as that is where I downloaded the full game from. Didn't see the demo link. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
  9. OOTP looks similar to a sim I used to use about 20 years ago called MicroLeague Baseball. I've been playing since OOTP3. It's a great baseball sim and online leagues are also a lot of fun. If nothing else, it helps pass the time in the offseason! OOTP is light years past Micro League. It is text based so if you want pretty pictures it wont be for you. If you want to be a GM then it is for you. The link to the site is http://cms.ootpdevelopments.com/index.php?page=ootp-baseball Dont let the basic website fool you, the OOTP group just split from SEGA/Sports Interactive so they are in the process of setting up the website for themselves again. I don't think they make Microleague any more. At least I haven't seen it is the late 80s. I downloaded OOTP but there isn't any demo or a demo mode so I deleted it. I'm not going to buy it unless I can try it out first.

  11. None of the above. Cherry pie is my favorite.
  12. Not sure where you heard that. There are hundreds of games that are backwards compatible. Having said that, once I started playing the next gen games, I never go back and play the old ones. And really, the only games I have that are BC are the Halo series.
  13. I'd say most threads stray off topic in transactions, regardless of the season.
  14. I voted for the 360. Better games right now. The Halo franchise is Xbox exclusive. Sure, PS3's online services are free, but you get what you pay for. Xbox Live is 4 bucks a month and ALL games that have Live capability have to meet the same standards as set up by Microsoft/Xbox Live (all games have to be Xbox live certified before being released to Xbox Live).
  15. Hart from Michigan or Boeckman from Ohio St.? Seriously? You didn't even put the best player in the Big Ten on that list.
  16. I think that will happen too - like you said. Where do you think Torii Hunter ends up? Rangers? Per Bruce Levine today, the White Sox are making him their #1 priority this off-season.
  17. I heard the report. They didn't say how late he was. Also said he was sent to AA. That's because AA is in the playoffs and is one of only 2 minor league teams still playing. OK. I wasn't implying anything by stating he was sent to AA. I just repeated what was said.

  19. Yes. I was in the car at noon today but didn't hear if anything came of it.
  20. He's trying to lock down the Illinois boarders by getting all the top Illinois players to come to the home state school. Pardon the threadjack.
  21. I'd guess that Buehrle's signing will have little to no affect on Zambrano.
