Lon Kruger??????????

Apparently that is the scoop by David Kaplan.

When's the last time Kaplan has been right about something?

If he was going to be right about something, I'd imagine it would be in regards to college basketball considering the connections that he has.

Somebody put out a fake press release about Kruger getting the job on a UNLV board. The Crean thing sounds a bit more credible.

But I'll believe it when the official announcement is made. If it is Crean taking the job, I'm fairly happy. I think highly of his coaching abilities.

Don't. He can't recruit big men and is a poor late-game manager. I hope you don't pay him as much as we did.

The Bloomington Herald Times confirms that it will be Crean. I think this is a better hire than Bennett, and he has a much longer record of success than Miller.

Don't burst my bubble so harshly.

Crean plays at a faster pace than anyone in the Big Ten. Hooray variety!

Good hire for IU, he'll energize the fan base and do a good job. I have to say I think Miller is a better coach, though this may be recognized as more of a "big name" hire.

Indifferent on the hire. It's questionable as to whether Crean can recruit/develop big men. He doesn't coach defense well, if at all. Sadly, he would be well-suited for a team with Crawford, Ellis, Bassett, Ebanks, and Holloway on the roster, but who knows if any of them will be there for him.

I would love the hire of Tom Crean. I was one of those who doubted that he would be interested in the job.

As for Summit, I think she'd be pretty good as Tennessee men's basketball coach. I doubt she'd do well at any other big school. And I'm pretty sure she's said that she'd never be interested in Tennessee's job, and if she's not interested in that one she's certainly not going to take any other men's job.

OK, so Marquette guy here with some thoughts: Crean's a good hire, though his never recruiting big men is still an issue. He does coach defense mercilessly with the "strip-steal." So Indiana made out pretty well I guess, though I'm still shocked that he'd leave.

So now that Marquette's job is open, who goes there? Thoughts?

By the numbers they've been pretty good lately. They've ranked 10th, 31st and 54th in defensive efficiency the last 3 years. The two years before that they were 138 and 160 though.

Just from watching them they seem to pressure and gamble a lot but will break down.

Would they consider Majerus? I know he just got to St. Louis but I would have to think he'd take it if offered.

Yeah, I posted before I looked up the defensive stats. Not as bad as I thought. Another good thing about this hire is that Terrell Holloway had Marquette on his list of teams after he got out of his LOI to IU. If Holloway does come back to IU, and everyone else comes back and is allowed to play, this team looks a lot like the recent Marquette teams.

tom crean just held a press conference and stated that he has no interest in holding a press conference.

Thought for sure I'd get to this one first.

I guess IU decided Pearl, Pitino, and Calipari weren't true Indiana men.

I'm pretty happy about this hire. I was expecting much worse. However, I do have reservations about Tom Crean. I've always considered him a good, but not great coach. Never thought of him as the next big thing. He hasn't recruited/developed big men, and, for a guard-oriented team, I never thought they passed or shared the ball as well as they should've. Outside of two years with Dwayne Wade -- and kudos to him for finding and developing such a great player -- his teams have but one NCAA Tournament win and have lost at least 10 games each season. I think he's a solid coach, no more.

However, this is the best Indiana has had in a long time. He has no red flags. He's got Big Ten ties and has recruited Indiana well (still cursing Davis for not pursuing Dominic James harder). Marquette's also not the easiest place to win at, especially since moving to the Big East. Marquette was the 25th most efficient offense and 10th most efficient defense this season as well. I think he'll do well at Indiana, and better than he did at Marquette. I still wish Tony Bennett would've taken the job though.

yeah, i'm surprised they'll pay so much for crean, and they will, and they wouldn't give a sniff to any of the real expensive guys.

i wonder what his buyout is? it's got to be a fortune, i mean, i think crean actually owns a controlling interest in marquette.

Well that was sarcasm. Cause there was no way in hell a big time coach wanted a piece of the mess IU has become.

We need a new coach. Our number one choice, Jeff Capel, just re-signed in Oklahoma for more money. Look for a few other coaches to use us for a raise. Our AD loves Sean Miller, but not his buyout. The Western Kentucky coach and UMASS coach Travis Ford are also on our list.

I realize that the IU search has created much more interest on the board, but South Carolina has a new head coach. It is Western Kentucky head coach Darrin Horn. For those of you giving Crean all the love for Dwyane Wade, it was Horn who got him to Marquette. No coach has ever won anything at a press conference, but for a 35 year old head coach, he crushed it. I am very excited about the future of South Carolina basketball.
