And a sensor to stop the radio from being turned too high. And a sensor when people are talking too much to passengers in the car. And when the car goes over the speed limit or changes lanes more than 4 times in an hour.

Cribbed from baseballthinkfactory, but they're saying to reach his BAC we're talking ~10 beers in 2 hours. He knew what he was doing.

It would be great if they could invent a car with a sensor that wouldn't start if the driver is impaired. Another feature would be a cut-off switch on the ignition when it senses cell phone use. With those two features you could probably reduce accidents by 80%.

Cutting power to the car while in motion would be fun.

I feel sorry for Hancock's friends and family, but not for Hancock himself. I'm just glad this idiot didn't hurt/kill another human being with his ridiculous stupidity.

Exactly. The tow truck parked behind a Geo Prism to shield it from traffic ... is it known whether anyone was in that car?

They have the impairment thing, at least for alcohol. In Arizona, they have a device that they force you to install in your car if you have a DUI where you actually have to blow a 0.03 or lower for the ignition to start. Obviously it would be unconstitutional to force everyone to install such a device, but its a start.

One problem with that is alcoholics will turn to a convenient person to blow into the ignition lock when they're drunk: their kids. And then they'll take the kids along for the ride just in case they need to unlock the car again before driving back home.

The Cardinals have banned alcohol from their clubhouse.

Also banned on inbound flights (those returning to STL). AM590 is saying some players are already complaining about these new policies.

Whatever. Here's hoping the Cards keep losing.

Has anyone mentioned the association of drinking/pot with the 4 players Hancock was supposed to meet later that night? I think it was Edmonds, Kennedy and 2 more players.

Aw, poor Cardinals. I feel so bad for them that they can't drink on the plane rides home. :-({|=

He obviously wasn't smoking "the pot" that night. If he was, his car likely wouldn't have been traveling much more than 15 MPH and he'd be alive today.

Apparently these players are idiots.

Interesting comment from LaRussa. So was Tony acknowledging that he was a bad example or that Josh didn't listen to warnings?

A lot of pages about the weed he had, and I'm willing to bet money that it had nothing to do with his crash, even if he had lit up right before getting in the car. It was the alcohol, which is many times more harmful and dangerous than marijuana. The day our society realizes this will be a good day.

To be honest, if I had to rank the causes of this crash, it would be Alcohol, Cell Phone, Pot...in that order.

I hear a lot of pot advocates try to downplay the dangers of smoking and driving. I don't hold the least bit of resentment against pot smoking myself, but the fact remains it's very much a problem. The only difference is fewer people do it.

Oh, I'm not trying to downplay the danger of smoking and driving. You should not drive while impaired by ANYTHING. And that goes for painkillers too. Hell, that even goes for Nyquil. I was just noting that the primary cause of the crash was the fact he was drunk off his ass and on the cell phone.

I would agree - I haven't smoked pot since before cell phones were invented but I know I am a lot more dangerous driving with a cell phone in my had than a joint. BTW I use a hands free device 99% of the time.

Of all the comments, his seemed to indicate he gets it. Jockety seemed to miss the fact that drunk drivers kill other people do (though maybe that's reading too much into his comments). Whoever the cardinal was who said it was a confluence of events is a complete idiot.

Yeah, I heard nothing about a couple pizzas, a few bags of cheetos, or any white castle being found at the crash site.

As Josh's father, I have this same duty. Unfortunately, my duties involve pursuing legal actions against those businesses and individuals who contributed to the death of Josh."

Hey dumbass, the only thing that contributed to your Son's death was his decision to get behind the wheel of a car drunk and on his cell phone!

IDIOT! AHHHHHH!............

Let that be a lesson to you. Make sure your car doesn't breakdown and if it does...hop out in traffic whizzing by at 70 mph and push your car through the traffic over to the side.

I really hope a judge throws this suit in the can where it belongs but I'll bet that doesn't happen.

I wish you could make the plaintiff pay the defendant just because it was a stupid lawsuit.

I bet Walt Jocketty and Larussa have a press conference scheduled to annouce their support for Handcock's dad in pursuit of "Justice"
