  1. Gonna miss you Rizz ...no tears, just applause for all the awesomeness you brought to Chicago :clapping:
  2. Now that is funny. [emoji23] Funny, yes, but probably not the way he intended. I'll take Laughable Comparisons for $100, Alex.
  3. This was after Game 7, Rosenthal was interviewing Baez when Lester interrupted and gave Baez a bear hug, telling him repeatedly "I'm so proud of you" or some such. Awesome scene, I've been looking for that too.
  4. That faint Javy chant was freakin awesome :)
  5. http://www.camdenchat.com/2016/7/31/12334468/brian-matusz-start-cubs-orioles-failure What if he actually does well? I have to confess to you, I am not a big enough person to wish him well in this start, or in any start he might make for the Cubs. If even Brian Matusz, colossal disappointment that he generally was, could be revived by another organization, what then? Add that to the apparent salvaging of Miguel Gonzalez with the White Sox and the well-documented Jake Arrieta breakout over the past couple of years with the Cubs, and the only reasonable conclusion that one could draw from that is that everyone responsible for developing and evaluating pitchers in the entire Orioles organization would have to be fired, along with everyone responsible for the continuing employment of those people. Some stains cannot be erased.
  6. Most have probably seen this by now, but for those who haven't: http://deadspin.com/why-prosecutors-didnt-bring-charges-against-aroldis-cha-1754305230 The word "choking" is gross exaggeration from what this report describes. And to say Chapman "isn't remorseful" is pretty presumptuous imo.
  7. Friedman + McNutt + $millions >> Theo
  8. That was shot from on top of the Tribune Tower, across the river and almost 500 feet above the ground... holy crap that was awesome.
  9. The five-hole pic is just awesome.
  10. Lou was as cryptic as ever there. Z will be back in the rotation by June 1. There is no effin way El Toro accepted a long relief role.
  11. The cop had every right to use the taser in that situation and the doofus deserved to get tasered. But it would have been more impressive if the cop had Heather Locklear's nightstick skilz at 0:54:
  12. Yeah, just look at Paul Sullivan or Jay Mariotti. Hopefully the OP is aiming higher. There will always be demand for sports journalists as long as there as sports fans.
  13. This. If Selig & Co want to be creative, I wish they would figure out a way to get some kind of salary cap past the MLBPA, without a floor. I know I know, when pigs fly :pig:
  14. I loved the 'We Got Kyle' t-shirts with Kerry out for the year.
  15. Amen to that... Jimmy Ballgame #2, Gary Gaetti #3. The summers of 08, 03 and 98 were very rare good times to be a Cubs fan. Can't wait for 2013 I guess. About Edmonds, I'll never forget his little bat flip toward Larussa after crushing a Looper fastball. I think it was a home game in August. Jimmy went yard twice that day, and came out for a curtain call after the 2nd, Cubs ended up winning 3-2. Cards fans I know openly admitted how much that game ripped their hearts out.
  16. Exactly. It's tempting to try to put words in Theriot's mouth regarding his comments about Sheets. But nowhere does he say or even imply that good chemistry => winning. The comment BigBadB quoted was benign - something anyone could say about their job: would you rather work with good guys or jerks?
  17. Please tell us where Theriot says anything of the sort - that "the thing that decides wins and losses is the joy level in the clubhouse".
  18. Still painful - Latroy and Geoff Blum had the last laugh in that game.
  19. Game 4. Didn't play in game 4 Yes, and now 3-19 of all post-season games in which he has appeared: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.cgi?n1=derosma01&t=b&post=1 (not his fault, his OPS is around 1000 in those 22 games)
  20. Bernie M is a fat troll but somehow succeeds in getting people to read his crappy one-word-paragraph columns. I'm glad he didn't try to play the Derosa-as-ex-Cub curse card. By the way, DeRo now 0-11 in the last 11 playoff games he has appeared in :( last win for him was 2003 NLDS Game 2.
  21. 20,000-1 WC odds as of Sep 28... we got em right where we want em.
  22. No truth to the rumor that Albert Pujols is sitting out the rest of the week due to an oblique strain from laughing too hard. Fixed. Actually Albert is fine, it's the 500 people who emailed this joker who are laughing their asses off at him.
  23. the cards have played the easiest schedule in baseball so far, how can it possibly get easier? Thursday, Jul 23 Watch Games Live! TV: CSCA St. Louis vs Washington 7:05pm ET MLB.TV Add to Calendar
  24. Of course he did - he even took swings at a catcher's return toss to the pitcher, like a racquetball shot off the backwall.
  25. That's why I love going to baseball practice. The sound of the ball when it goes through the air, when it hits the glove,... is soothing for some reason. I also love the sound of the ball being hit. When I'm at bat, I can hear when I make good contact. Yeah and best of all what you feel when you make good contact ... or actually what you don't feel, which is torque. Physics geekspeak for hitting the ball on the screws: ball hits the center of percussion of the bat (sweet spot), where no reaction torque is tranferred back to the hands.
