Wow. this makes for some interesting possibilities.

 

I like the upside. Significant risk. Major changes to the roster...out of the blue. 

If holmes does come back at full strength he seems to be the anti- Imanaga. 0.6 career HR/9.

On what list is Rojas 50-75? BA has him 96, one ahead of Kepley.

Former reliever turned starter, will most definitely be a starter for the Cubs.

MLB.com may see him as the 63rd best prospect but I think based on this trade, you can assume the Cubs do not see him as the 63rd best prospect in baseball. 

Teams can have wildly different views of player than industry rankings. And that's how you square this trade. I think it's a very heavy price, myself, but I don't think the Cubs agree with me there.

If they don't believe he can stick at SS, I think that's fair. He's still a really good prospect, but his bat is more above average at 2B/3B, versus really good if he was at SS.

I assume part of it as well is that he was blocked so even if the Cubs thought he was a better player than say Ayers  (or whoever) they ultimately feel Ayers will be a more useful player for them.

Just to square this away a little more: the Brewers traded Frias, who is ranked higher and graded higher on FG for May/Romero. 

So I'm not entirely sure the Rojas for Holmes/Taylor thing is that crazy when looked through that lens.

Still don't love it but after some consideration don't hate it as much. TDL is always going to be an overpay so it is what it is.

This year, Rojas has played 56 games at 3B compared to 26 at SS. I think that tells you what the Cubs think of him defensively.
