Man this has taken a turn fir the worst in a hurry . From having Detmers , to not having Detmers , to having Braxton Garrett to Luke Weaver going to Pirates . horsefeathers this

I swear if i have to listen to Jed say "tHe PrICes WeRe jUST tOo much" ...what the horsefeathers are we doing with all these blocked prospects then. Alcantara, i get keeping, we have OF holes and he does still have a high ceiling if he can get the Ks under control but this is the deadline to move some guys.

So on the plus side, the 2027 rotation is rounding into form

Steele, Cabrera, Garret, Brown is pretty legit. If Detmers does end up happening, they're pretty much set and can focus in FA on OF bats.

I would have loved Bubic. Dodgers seem to have basically given nothing for him smh

Well, the Cubs got their own Bubic in Braxton Garrett in many ways.

Soft tossing LHP who isn't likely to help in 2026 but could be a 2027 play.

Needs one more guy, but like that could easily be Matt Boyd taking the QO.

I also wonder if we see more of that Eovaldi smoke.  Eovaldi+Garret would hit pretty hard for both '26 and '27.

Braxton really isn't getting the love he should. Before the injury he was  legitimately as good as anyone currently in the Cub rotation.

He's a rental that is currently on the 60 day IL who likely doesn't have time to get stretched out before the end of the season. That's why he was so cheap.

A. That was 3 years ago

B. That's more an indictment on the current rotation than a compliment to Garrett.

It makes sense, then, as to why some confusion may have happened.

Also probably means no Detmers. Nice reliever, though.

But the rotation is largely not exciting and he's another guy that rarely cracks 92.
