Really really good win.  Obviously Nola/Rea is a mismatch and the bullpen was pretty shredded.  Winning *AND* only using Milner/Martin?  Huge.

Did we seriously luck into a situation where Matt Shaw got nothing but routine fly balls for three weeks while he learned RF and he managed to get good at the position right about the time he actually start getting tested?

It's kind of funny, or I should say interesting.  When we saw the Cubs schedule, when the season started, we thought Phillies - Mets - Phillies - Dodgers - Padres would be really tough.  So far, so great.😄

Offensively, we must have one of the best bench in baseball.  Any of these guys could pinch hit, Mo, Seiya, Kelly, Miggy, Conforto and Shaw.

I don’t know what’s more surprising, Busch Suzuki and PCA having combined for 1 homer run in 22 games and a mid 500’s combined OPS of the fact that the cubs are scoring at a 5.3 runs/game clip inspite of that.

Honestly, Nola has seen his best years.  And I say that as someone who always really liked Nola.    If you put he and Rea's numbers side by side since 2023 Rea compares favorably.  Nola of course has the higher level success in years previous and has the name pedigree because of that, but those two as we stand today,  I actually would not say it's a mismatch.

If anything the Cubs let Nola off the hook last night, started swinging at pitches they were taking earlier in the game and getting walks on.    Really should have gotten more than 5 runs.

With so many of our good pitchers hurt, credit goes to the rotation and pen for holding down the fort.

And defense.

Well a few of those guys are starters. But, yes, I agree that whichever catcher isn’t starting could be the best bench catcher in the game, Shaw is a great utility bat and Conforto is a solid left handed bench off the bench. Last guy is just that. A guy who hardly plays. Very solid bench.
