This is a 75 win offense

Yet another hot take. And a rather silly one, at that.

“I had some tightness in my wrist. And then, you know, as the game went on, it started to move into my forearm. And so, I just wanted to err on the cautious side and really not try to hurt anything else….I just wanted to be smart about it. I’ve been in this spot before, and I’ve taken the other route where kept going and it ends up being worse. And so, I just tried to make a mature decision and end it there.”

No promises on how it turns out but short of a hot day where you could buy a cramp this as good of an answer as you could ask for.

They are just chasing way too much and hitting nothing squarely.

Shaw has me quite worried. I did not expect his discipline to be so bad and he has hardly any hard contact.

The offense has been ugly and bailed out by a lot of no man's land popups.

Shaw didn't make much hard contact even when he was doing well last year. It's not going to be long before it's fair to wonder if he's just not going to be very good.

Curious what the roster move for Horton is.  Obviously one of Rea/Brown is going to slide into the rotation and leaving an opening in the pen.  Do you bring up Assad so you can continue doing the two long relievers thing?  Do you bring up one of the vets to preempt their opt-out, even though none has really been amazing over the last month?  Maybe Ethan Roberts, whose stuff appears all the way back and in tiny sample has been the best reliever at Iowa so far?

I would leave Brown alone. Let him settle into a role.  It's probably Rea.

You probably are right but thats how I feel today. I see the same issues that tanked the lineup from June onward last year.

Yeah, let Brown cook as a potentially solid setup guy. I think he's done as a starter, as nice as that dream was.

What you’re not impressed by someone predicting a pitcher will have elbow issues? What are you gong to tell me next, that you’re not impressed with a prediction that an NFL player will get a concussion?

Not just elbow issues.  He can't stay on the field.

Better news than his elbow exploding i guess.  Hopefully tendonitis or something.

Cade Horton throws like a catcher. I wonder what Mike Marshall would say. They may need to convert him into a relief pitcher.

3/5 games with 5 or fewer hits. They’ve looked like horsefeathers when they haven’t faced Miles Mikolas and minor leaguer Ryan Johnson. Ugly start.

He throws like a former college quarterback.

Giolito is still out there, is he an upgrade over Rea if the Horton news is bad?

Why is he still on the market? Is it contract demands or something else?

The difference is mainly name value at this point

Take the politics chatter to Social. I don't care how you feel about Shaw, but most of us are horsefeathers sick and tired of it coming up in this forum.

Consider this a formal warning, because the next person to bring it up in here isn't going to be seen again for awhile.

Yep...

Ballesteros their main DH is struggling out of the gate with just 3 hits.

Bregman has had one good game when he homered twice.

Happ outside of his 3 homers, only has 2 other hits.

Swanson has been invisible with just 3 hits.

These guys need to get it going to get the offense moving

For sure. and I think they will. Happ will not strikeout 25% of the time. (It became pretty overblown that I think Happ is approaching the age where he will decline, but not THIS level of decline.) Ballesteros will hit. PCA will hit. Bregman, Busch etc.

Amaya and Nico will not be expected to carry the lineup.

It is early, SSS, and has been frigid. The bats will heat up with the weather.

They’ll all get going at some point, the vets anyways, especially when Suzuki comes back. There’s still uncertainty about what we have in Shaw, Ballesteros and PCA to a lesser extent. They still lack a Kyle Tucker so they’ll need solid production from 1-9 to replicate last years success. But not ideal to split a homestand against the nationals and angels.

And Shohei and Tucker only just hit their first HR's of the year for LA. It's been a week
