Turns out that his single earlier in the game was hit harder than any ball he's ever hit in a regular season game.  They were cagey about what kind of stuff he was working on over the winter too...something's up with him.

Interesting. He damn near falls over with his max-pull approach. Im intrigued.

He's also been notoriously crummy on non-fastballs historically, maybe this approach helps that if he's not always selling out to pull fb's.

He did the same in 23. Touching 97 multiple times with a big K against Alonso I believe. I got way too excited for him after that.

His velo's been high this spring too, hopefully he's back to his 2023 form.

Assad's had an insane run of luck to start his career, but in 23 he actually pitched pretty well and just got lucky on top of it.

The zone as umpires actually call it and the zone as it is in the rulebook are very different.  Here's a really great graphic

Jumping whole hog into robot umps instead of starting with challenges is begging for massive unintended consequences.

Isn't it now also a plane rather than using the entire depth of the plate or were umpires calling that way anyway?

I believe the first iteration of the ABS was full depth and a bunch of cheap unhittable breaking balls grazing the front bottom corners kept getting called.  Making it a plane halfway back ended up giving results much more in line with expectations.

Brown sitting 97 is fun, I wonder if he can keep this up as he continues to get stretched out.

Brown walking the house

Walking and hitting.  I liked Mo's ABS challenges.  I thought both of them were too low, but Mo was right.  In the 1st inning, a couple of them could've been strikes, too.

Snider and Roberts both with more velo than they had last year but less than they had their first few outings

Forgot to mention my observations of Wiggins so far.  He's had no real problems spotting his fastball, and the velo is ridiculous, but he's had poor command of his secondaries.  Saw him get ahead then walk a guy because he had problems finishing him with his curve and change he was missing on.  Was missing his change by a couple feet (high and out of the zone). Maybe the secondaries are where the walks have come from historically.  Haven't been impressed with the break on his curveball either via just the eyetest, reminded be of the lame version of Killian's curve.  Didn't see a slider.

Physically he's an absolute beast.  Looks like a less bulky version of Kyle Farnsworth out there.

Overall seems like a very talented work in progress.
