What PCA did in the first half is insane, but whatever award you want to assign to the guy who just went out and stayed at his borderline elite skill level week after week, it's definitely him. Monthly wRC never dipped below 99, and after topping out at 110 (in June), he's at 165 in September, which is giving him 121 for the second half, which is insane for an elite defensive middle infielder.

Over/Under 3.5 "We have to get rid of him and replace him with someone worse who hits more dongs" articles this winter?

he got cubs type money though. he was probably one of the guys they tried to get in the offseason

Well he got 16m prorated. I think it's 6m he gets for less than 2 months of the season, which isn't cheap.  And they were burned by Kimbrel with the mid- season add after the guy essentially sitting for months.

Would be nice if this ownership would fork.out the cash though.  Worth a shot but I assume Cubs got outbid

I sifted through and read the vast majority of the comments in here. Many good points and opinions on a plethora of things. I like seeing other people’s viewpoints and opinions. We all have them as fans - my personal take……

With the way this season has gone as a whole, it’s any team’s championship to win. Who would have thought that the Dodgers, Yankees, and let us not forget the Mets, would have struggled as much as they have? Cubs were one of the hottest teams to start the year, Giants started off hot, fell off and are now within striking distance from a WC spot. Holy hell - look at Milwaukee and their success lol. That’s just a few examples. This season is so stressful because there’s no sure fire way to tell anything - baseball is awesome because of the unpredictable nature of streaks.

Long and short - what team(s) are going to be the hottest come end of September and through October? Man, we all hope the Cubbies can catch that 🔥 again! I’m trying to be optimistic - I was one of those that was quick to bitch about the Cubs due to frustration like many, but when you boil it down, they have just as good of a chance as anyone. Go Cubs! 🐻

Yep, sometimes I call the baseball post season the tournament because, much like the NCAA tournament, anything can and usually does happen.

A convert!!!! Nice to see someone who can admit fault in his thinking and is open to other ideas. Very proud of you papacub. I think we all realize this team has flaws. What many who have them automatically losing don’t have, is an idea of other teams flaws. And most don’t care. Just easy to say the Cubs won’t win. Then when they don’t they can say they knew it all along because they didn’t have enough of this or that. The reason they lost will be filled in after the series they lose, based on why they lost. If they lose low scoring games it willl be they didn’t have enough offense. If the starting pitching falters it will be they knew the rotation couldn’t hold up. If the pen blows a game it will be the pen wasn’t strong enough. The flaw in the team is tbd, based on results of the series. And eventually they can say they were right. While, in truth, as you said, anyone can win. So why not the Cubs? Go Cubs and welcome to reality. 👍

Ha! I’m not sure whether to like this comment, laugh at it, or be offended- possibly all three? 🤷‍♂️😝

I hear ya though man - why the hell not the Cubs?! 💪👍

Was definitely not meant to offend. All good spirited. And glad to have you on the Cubs bandwagon. Like I said njmerous times, they can very well lose the first round. But they can win too. So why not stay positive. There are no great teams. I do think the Phillies would give the Cubs the most trouble. Hopefully they never have to face them to win the NL.

No bandwagon here - been a fan since I was a kid. However, I have shifted to the more optimistic side of fandom with the Cubs. I get frustrated like anyone, but what the hell - they have beaten the best this year and lost to the worst, so it’s anyone’s championship to win.

Absolutely - I’d much rather play the Brewers after the Padres (most likely first round opponent) than the Phillies. I live right outside Philly, so I would love nothing more than beating them to get to the WS, but yes - it would also be cool to avoid them if possible lol

It's crazy that the Mets seriously have a shot at not finishing .500. At one point they were 21 games over .500 at 45W-24L and following today's 6th loss in a row they're now only 6 games over .500

The Mets are having the collapse that so many Cubs' fans are convinced the Cubs are having.

Yeah, for those who are being negative about the Cubs, many teams like Dodgers, Padres, Mets, even Brewers were less than .500 in the last 10 ~ 12  games.  I get frustrated, too, but seeing other teams' results, the Cubs aren't too bad.

The main reasons why we get so frustrated are 1. the Brewers happened to be in the same division, 2. the Cubs were awesome early in the season with harder schedule, but they're not lately, I'm talking about the offense, of course.

I believe the Cubs have a better chance at a long playoff run than the Brewers.

The Brewers have a better chance of a long playoff run but that's mainly because they don't have to play the WC round.

I didn't realize that the Brewers are only 2 games up on Philly for the 1 seed now. Relevant to us since we'll be in the 1-2 WC matchup which means we'd play the 1 seed if we advance. I've just assumed that would be Milwaukee because they were way up but they're 4-6 in the last 10 while Philly is 8-2.

The Cubs have won two straight and the Brewers have lost three in a row... and the Cubs are still 5.5 games back in the division.

First NL Wild Card, here we come!

How are you feeling about the state of the Cubs right now?

I can tell you one thing - the Brewers are hoping to hell the Mets can hold off the Giants for that final Wild Card Spot.

Why. If the Brewers just take care of their business and end with the best record in the NL (currently up by 2 games and win the tie breaker against the Phillies) they probably won’t see the Giants. And even if they don’t finish first in the NL, the Giants have to get past the Dodgers to play them in rhe NLDC. I doubt the Brewers have any concerns about the Giants.
As a Cubs fan, I really hope the Brewers end up with the best record in the NL. I would much rather play them than the Phillies in that round.

Good time to ask this question. Does anyone know why there seems to always be a small slate of ML games (6-10) on Thursday’s?

Every team always plays fri-sat-sun for the big weekend crowds.  So Mon and Thurs are the travel days, and teams  typically get a 3- game series in during the week Mon-Tues-Wed or Tues-Wed-Thurs.

Me too. And I have been around long enough to remember the collapse in ‘69. Santo is my all time favorite player.

Still no signs of action from Amaya and Billy Hamilton?

Way different scenarios on those guys. Hamilton, I am sure, was someone who maybe they put on the playoff roster as a pinch runner. No other reason for him, so who cares what is happening with him? He isn’t a thing in the regular season. Amaya is someone they can use now and I would like to see some update on him.
