Road series win in a Taillon v Sale matchup.

Yeah, that's great.  Jamo wasn't bad at all.

Santana being a gold glove first baseman is something I was made aware of at some point, but is something that is so at odds with the rest of what he brings to the table these days that that was a shocking play

Fangraphs and B-R really disagree on Santana when it comes to WAR, with FG giving him 28.8, really disliking his defense, but B-R having him at 39.2.

Cubs have now clinched a better record than the Twins, Athletics, Pirates and Braves.

Braves are a strange Baseball club. Every year I have them as one of NL’s best and a team to be feared. This year they are 60-81. Either they’ve fallen off a cliff or aren’t a very good team to begin with.

Without doing a year by year comparison, that seems to be heavily driven by his catching defense. Santana played catcher from 2010-2014 and through those years FG had him at 7 wins and BR had him at 17. I know at least FG has overhauled their catching metrics lately and it's certainly more an art than a science, but they have him as like horrifically bad defensively (his 2011 season is the 6th worst defensive season of this century per FG, which is shocking considering the bonus catchers typically get).

Don't have the pitching this year

Cubs have 16 games remaining:

3 vs TB (currently 72-72 and losing)
3 @ PIT (64-82)
4 @ CIN (currently 73-72)
3 vs NYM (currently 76-70 and in a free fall)
3 vs STL (currently 72-74)

If the Mets continue free falling, this opens up the possibility the Cubs don't play a team with a winning record through the end of the season.

I'm not worried about any magic number.  I want the Giants to keep winning every game and knock the Mets out of the playoffs.

This next week will be the best opportunity for Giants or Reds to pass them with another game against the Phillies tomorrow and the hot Rangers and the Padres to follow.

Plus none of their hitters are having particularly good years by their standards. Profar and Acuna have also missed half the year.

They are also 19-34 in 1 run games

I know they’ve had pitching issues and injuries but considering all the young players they signed long term extensions with that everyone was marveling over it’s crazy that they are this bad

It did seem like a few years back that they were set up to dominate for a while when they made those signings of some very good young players.  Baseball is always unpredictable.

Think that was towards the dugout, maybe Counsell saying something because of the same thing happening to Swanson the batter before.

Oh, very well could be.

Padres lose.  Magic number is 13 with 16 left to play.  We're looking pretty locked into that 4 seed.

Yeah it’s actually shaping up to be a fun last couple weeks of the season in terms of teams going for a playoff spot or at least positioning. Feel like it looked pretty boring a few weeks ago.  I would very much like to be excluded from the party.
