Why haven’t the teams that are capable of winning the World Series won more games

There is one team capable of winning the WS right now and its the Brewers because they know how to build a team and organization correctly.

We are stuck with Jed Hoyer.

Cubs are maybe the 11th "best" team in baseball and dropping fast. This pitching staff is so bad that it brings down a slightly above average offense.

I’m old enough to remember when the 11th best team with a bad pitching staff held the Red Sox and Yankees to 4 runs in 36 innings.

So now you're just trolling. That won't fly for long in these parts

Ive known you for a while, my friend.

The Cubs have the same amount of wins as the Los Angeles Dodgers and it is beyond the ASB and half way point. I understand it can be frustrating how the Brewers are surging, but you are more logical than this take.

The Cubs won't just be given the division but this is an emotional reaction and not a logical one.

I honestly can’t believe the amount of consternation about this particular loss. By all accounts, Jed is very actively trying to plug some holes in the rotation and maybe even add an impact pen arm to the mix. Brown and Flexen likely won’t be on the roster in ten days. The headline of the game for me is our rookie 3B is maybe turning a corner. Otherwise, burn the fuckin’ tape and move on.

The fact we're in 2nd place is mind-boggling.  I don't like the Brewers but I can tip my cap to that org.  Incredible job they do season after season.  They lost their POBO, their manager, their ace and their closer etc and just keep going.

Great FO transactions, great development, extremely value focused.

The 2006 Cardinals had an 83-78 record, five games worse than any other team in the playoffs that year.

Doomerism is to be expected during slumps, but try to keep things in perspective.

Look, I apologize if i offended anyone. Yeah i'm an emotional person, i have been my whole life, and yeah I overreacted. I'm just very annoyed and I'm losing my optimism on this team. This roster has lost its shine for me as its flaws become more and more apparent.

Give me one reason to be even remotely optimistic about this team. I'm sick of this organization constantly crying poor and throwing out JAGs like Brown and then having the nerve to charge almost 15 dollars for a beer.

Its ridiculous.

When a team with a payroll in the bottom half of the league consistently produces a more competitive roster than a top 5 market in the sport, that's a problem. Tom has been yapping about sustained success for more than 15 years now and his ownership regime has produced playoff caliber teams only five times.

We have 62 games left in this season and barring significant pitching additions, which I am not convinced Jed will make, I am struggling to see a WS caliber roster. I like Boyd, I like Imanaga but I do not trust them to start a playoff game.

I've been seeing your posts for 20 years bro and this is the worst one. Like seriously you think no other team has major flaws right now? You have been paying enough attention to each roster that you can say there are ten teams better? Come the horsefeathers on, this is insane.

If you don't trust those 2 to start a playoff game then there are maybe 5 guys in all of MLB you do trust, and I have bad news for you, none of them are getting traded before the deadline.

The Cubs are 6-5 in their last 11 and lost 5 games in the standings. Its not like they went on a 1-10 stretch or something. The Brewers are on a sun run

I’m sure when the cubs win 2 games in a row he’ll look at the positives and reassess.

it’s weird how ‘emotional’ is just meant to mean ‘exceedingly negative’

That's my point though. The fact that we dont have one of those guys with our resources is a massive problem.

Cubs are about to go on a 5 game win streak and it could of been longer if they had a normal SP yesterday instead of a bullpen game.

Yes it sucks to give up the lead, just remember there 8 more head to head games against the Brewers that when we'll see where theyre at, and something tells me the Brewers wont be on this winning trip theyre on now.

Look I got emotional and overreacted. Its not 10 but I think of the current playoff teams, the Cubs are the weakest team as constructed. I do not trust this pitching staff at all and its very hard to win when you are constantly having to come from behind.

I am not an exceedingly negative person. I'm actually an optimist for the most part. Talk to anyone who knows me in my life and they will agree. I am an emotional person.

I do not trust this roster at all.

Yes, why didn’t we use our massive resources to…draft Paul Skenes first overall. This is uniquely a cubs problem.

Linking your arguments, it’s weird how there are only five pitchers, but at least one of them is a brewer, as they are the only team that can win the WS, which is backed by zero statistical analysis (Boyd has been better than peralta by every metric this year). It’s almost like you crafted a narrative that is as negative as possible.

I don’t know what a “WS caliber” roster really means honestly. There are teams that qualify for the playoffs, and there are teams that win the World Series, and you can better position yourself in the postseason, but only somewhat.

The best teams in the league only win around 60% of the time. That’s just baseball buddy.

I feel like the big thing we can agree on is that nobody knows what will happen by the end of the season.  We don’t even know what the playoff rosters will be for each team yet.

The fact that you're the level-headed voice of reason in this thread speaks volumes here.
