Is it officially time to worry, or at least question the state of this team when they snap their consecutive games without losing 3 in a row streak?

Thank you for asking

No it is not

For me personally it’s not so much worry, as this is a lot closer to who this offense really is than the insane first 6-7 weeks of the season.  Maybe not less than average like they’ve been for the last 3.5 weeks, but certainly right there.

Time to pull the trigger on an SP Jed. Brown ain’t it.

Shota returning  + trade for SP + Brown to the pen should help tremendously.

Best case scenario is they delayed their mid summer blues by a month thanks to more talent/easier schedule from 23-24, but the weak starting rotation which is even weaker now that Steele is done still persist. The offense, which will bounce back to a degree, won’t be enough to overcome a weak pitching staff. I don’t see any available arms that’ll make this team a big threat in the playoffs either unless they recapture that April magic. The pen has pitched way over their heads too. While we wait for the offense to heat up the bullpen will be right there to offset their net positive.

this is what happens when you slash $40 million off the books and don’t put it back into the team with needs at SP and uncertainty at third base with free agent talent available.

I think the Cubs were second in OPS against left handed pitching.

The Cubs have scored 32 runs in their last 5 games

With a big chunk wind aided.  Over the last 3.5-4 weeks they’re at 4 runs per game.   That’s including that ridiculous HR fest of wind.

Yes, that's how that works, the offense does well when the wind is howling out and poorly when it is howling in.

Unfortunately, the opponents have done better, at least in the case of that wind aided offensive surge from last Monday where they went 2-3 last week. Which is how its worked lately when they’re not playing the pirates or marlins.

Nope, wait til August and see what they do with trades.   Everything will be different come August, contenders will play better and pretenders will start to sink after the deadline.

I consider myself one of the more optimistic posters here, but I really don’t want to see Ben Brown make another start.

I think that your wish will be granted.  The look on his face as he exited the mound suggested that he knew a demotion was imminent.

I was saying that in jest. Amaya and Shotah can’t come back soon enough

I feel confident he’s heading down.

If it’s Ben Brown flush it down. Can’t wait to hear the apologists excuses for him now and why he’s still here losing games lol. It’s not a rebuilding year.

I'm well over Ben Brown as a starter, and even more over Dansby hitting any higher than 8th. That said, I firmly believe this team will be fine. Baseball is gonna baseball.
